Currently,nocountyorcitycanregulatetheamountofrentfor
certainresidentialorcommercialrentalproperty.
Thisbillspecifiesthatnocountyorcitycanenact,maintain,or
enforceanyordinanceorresolutionthatprohibitslandlordsfrom
refusingtoleaseorrentcertainresidentialorcommercial
propertytoapersonbecausetheperson'ssourceofincomeincludes
aidfromaFederalhousingassistanceprogram.
Thebillspecifiesthatnocityorcountymayenactanordinance
that:
(1)Prohibitslandlordsfromusingincome-qualifyingmethodsto
determinewhethertorentorleaseapropertytoaprospective
tenant;
(2)Prohibitslandlordsfromrequestingtenantcriminalrecords;
(3)Limitstheamountofsecuritydepositrequiredfromatenant;
or
(4)Requirestenantstoautomaticallyreceivetherightoffirst
refusal.
