SectionA.Section336.010,RSMo,isrepealedandonenewsectionenactedinlieu
2thereof,tobeknownassection336.010,toreadasfollows:
336.010.1.The"practiceofoptometry"istheexamination,diagnosis,[treatment,
2andpreventativecare]prevention,andtreatment,surgicalornonsurgical,oftheeye,
3adnexa,andvision.Thepracticeincludes,butisnotlimitedto:
4 (1)Theexaminationoftheeye,adnexa,andvisiontodeterminetheaccommodative
5andrefractivestates,visualperception,conditions,anddiseases;
6 (2)Thediagnosisandtreatmentofconditionsordiseasesoftheeye,adnexa,and
7vision;
8 (3)Theperformanceofdiagnosticproceduresandorderingoflaboratoryandimaging
9testsforthediagnosisofvisionandconditionsanddiseasesoftheeyeandadnexa;
10 (4)Theprescriptionandadministrationofpharmaceuticalagents[, excluding
11injectableagents,] forthepurposeofexamination,diagnosis,andtreatmentofvisionand
12conditionsordiseasesoftheeyeandadnexa;
13 (5)Theremovalofsuperficialforeignbodiesfromtheeyeoradnexa;
14 (6)Notwithstandingtheprovisionsofanyotherlawtothecontrary,including
15section334.010,thecorrectionandreliefofocularabnormalitiesbysurgicalprocedures
16notexcludedundersubsection2ofthissection;
EXPLANATION—Matterenclosedinbold-facedbrackets[thus] intheabovebillisnotenactedandis

25 2.Theboardshallcontinuetoreviewsurgicalproceduresnotlistedinthis
26subsectionbutwhichshallbeexcludedfromthescopeofthepracticeofoptometry.The
27followingproceduresarenotwithinthescopeofoptometryandanoptometrist[may]
28shallnotperform[surgery,includingtheuseoflasersfortreatmentofanydiseaseor
29conditionorforthecorrectionofrefractiveerror] suchprocedures,exceptforthe
30preoperativeandpostoperativecareoftheseprocedures:
31 (1)Retinalaserprocedures,laser-assistedinsitukeratomileusis(LASIK),and
32photorefractivekeratectomy(PRK);
33 (2)Nonlasersurgeryrelatedtoremovaloftheeyefromalivinghumanbeing;
34 (3)Nonlasersurgeryrequiringfullthicknessincisionorexcisionofthecorneaor
35scleraotherthanparacentesisinanemergencysituationrequiringimmediatereduction
36ofthepressureinsidetheeye;
37 (4)Penetratingkeratoplasty(cornealtransplant)orlamellarkeratoplasty;
38 (5)Nonlasersurgeryrequiringincisionoftheirisandciliarybody,includingiris
39diathermyorcryotherapy;
