Uponvoterapproval,thisresolutionwouldamendtheMissouri
Constitutiontorequireacountytoelect,byamajorityvoteof
thequalifiedvoters,asheriffforatermoffouryearsandevery
fouryearsthereafter. Thisprovisionwillnotapplytocounties
inwhichtheofficeofsheriffisnotanelectedoffice.Acounty
inwhichtheofficeofsheriffisnotanelectedofficecan
irrevocablyrestoretheofficetoanelectedoffice,atwhichpoint
theprovisionwillapply.
Theelectedsheriffwillbenotifiedofallfederalinvestigations
inhisorhercountyandwillperformthedutiesspecifiedinthe
resolution. Anelectedsheriffwillnotberemovedfromoffice
exceptbywritofquowarrantoinitiatedbytheMissouriAttorney
General.
TheresolutionalsoallowstheGeneralAssemblytolevycourtcosts
andfeestosupportthesalariesorbenefitsforsheriffsand
retiredsheriffs.
