9	8		To amend chapter 9, RSMo, by adding thereto one new section relating to Kappa Alpha Psi Day
10	9		in Missouri.

12	11		Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of Missouri, as follows:
13	12		Section A. Chapter 9, RSMo, is amended by adding thereto 1
14	13		one new section, to be known as section 9.409, to read as 2
15	14		follows:3
16	15		9.409. 1. January fifth of each year shall be known 1
17	16		and designated as "Kappa Alpha Psi Day" in Missouri. The 2
18	17		citizens of this state are encouraged to observe the day 3
19	18		with appropriate activities and events to commemorate the 4
20	19		founding of the fraternity. 5
21	20		2. Kappa Alpha Psi was founded on January 5, 1911, at 6

27	26		3. Founding member Henry Tourner Asher was a n educator 12
28	27		and instructor at Lincoln Institute, now known as Lincoln 13
29	28		University of Missouri, in Jefferson City. 14
30	29		4. Kappa Alpha Psi is the second oldest existing 15
31		-	collegiate historically Black Greek -letter fraternity and 16 ~~SCS SB 110 2~~
32		-	the first intercollegiate ~~fraternity~~ incorporated as a 17
	30	+	collegiate historically Black Greek -letter fraternity and 16
	31	+	the first intercollegiate f raternity incorporated as a 17 SCS SB 110 2
33	32		national body. The fraternity has over two hundred fifty 18
34	33		thousand members with seven hundred undergraduate and alumni 19
35	34		chapters in nearly every state of the United States, and 20
36	35		thirteen international chapters in Nigeria, Sout h Africa, 21
37	36		Bermuda, Bahamas, U.S. Virgin Islands, Panama, United 22
38	37		Kingdom, Germany, South Korea, Dominican Republic, Abu 23
39	38		Dhabi, Canada, and Japan. 24
40	39		5. Through its worldwide prominence, Kappa Alpha Psi 25
41	40		has had a global impact on events that affect ou r local 26
42	41		communities and places around the globe. Local chapters of 27
43	42		Kappa Alpha Psi participate in community outreach activities 28
44	43		to feed the homeless, provide scholarships to young people 29
45	44		matriculating to college, serve as mentors to young men, 30
46	45		participate in blood drives, and serve as hosts of seminars 31
47	46		for public health awareness, to name a few. Nationally, 32
48	47		Kappa Alpha Psi has provided summer enrichment camps and 33
49	48		funds for St. Jude Medical Research Center to assist in the 34
50	49		fight against childhood catastrophic diseases by raising 35
51	50		more than one million dollars. Internationally, Kappa Alpha 36
52	51		Psi members have answered the call to service by proudly 37
53	52		serving our military in wars since WWI and raising funds to 38
54	53		assist those in need following natural di sasters worldwide, 39
55	54		including hurricanes, tornadoes, typhoons, and earthquakes. 40
56	55		6. Kappa Alpha Psi proudly boasts members who 41
57	56		epitomize the essence of "Achievement in Every Field of 42
58	57		Human Endeavor". Some of these members include Ralph 43
