118 To amend chapter 160, RSMo, by adding thereto one new section relating to allowing public
129 schools to employ or accept chaplains as volunteers.

1411 Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of Missouri, as follows:
1512 Section A. Chapter 160, RSMo, is amended by adding thereto 1
1613 one new section, to be known as section 160.2505, to read as 2
1714 follows:3
18- 160.2505. 1. A school district or charter school may 1
19-employ a chaplain or accept a chaplain as a screened 2
20-volunteer, as the term "screened volunteer" is defined in 3
21-section 168.133, to provide support, services, or programs 4
22-for students as assigned by the school board of the sc hool 5
23-district or the governing body of the charter school. 6

16+charter school may employ a chaplain or accept a chaplain as 2
17+a screened volunteer, as the term "screened volunteer" is 3
18+defined in section 168.133, to provide support, services, or 4
19+programs for students as assigned by the school board of the 5
20+school district or the governing body of the charter school. 6
2421 2. A chaplain employed by or volunteering for a school 7
2522 district or charter school pursuant to the provisions of 8
26-this section shall not be employed in any position that 9
27-requires a teaching certificate unless such chaplain is a 10
28-certified teacher pursuant to the provisions of section 11

30- 3. A school chaplain shall be a member of a Department 13
31-of Defense listed religious -endorsing organization 14
32-recognized by the Armed Forces Chapl ains Board. 15
33- 4. A school district or charter school that employs a 16
34-chaplain or accepts a chaplain as a screened volunteer shall 17
35-ensure that a criminal background check is conducted on such 18
36-chaplain pursuant to the provisions of section 168.133 19
37-before the chaplain begins employment or volunteer service 20
38-at the district or school. 21
39- 5. A school district or charter school shall not 22
40-employ a chaplain or accept a chaplain as a screened 23
41-volunteer if such chaplain is required to be registered as a 24
42-sex offender pursuant to the provisions of sections 589.400 25
43-to 589.425. 26
