| 8 | 8 | | To amend chapter 590, RSMo, by adding thereto one new section relating to a committee on school |

| 11 | 11 | | Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of Missouri, as follows: |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | Section A. Chapter 590, RSMo, is amended by adding thereto 1 |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | one new section, to be known as section 590.208, to read as 2 |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | follows:3 |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | 590.208. 1. There is hereby established the 1 |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | "Committee on School Safety" within the department of public 2 |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | safety. 3 |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | 2. The committee shall consist of the following 4 |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | members: 5 |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | (1) Up to three representatives of the department of 6 |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | public safety; 7 |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | (2) A representative of the Missouri Sheriff's 8 |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | Association; 9 |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | (3) A representative of the Missouri Municipal League; 10 |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | (4) A representative of the department of elementa ry 11 |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | and secondary education; and 12 |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | (5) A representative of the Missouri School Boards' 13 |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | Association's Center for Education Safety. 14 |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | 3. One member who represents the department of public 15 |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | safety shall serve as chair of the committee. 16 |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | 4. Members of the committee shall serve without 17 |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | compensation but may be reimbursed for actual expenses 18 SB 508 2 |

| 33 | 33 | | necessary to the performance of their official duties for 19 |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | the committee. 20 |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | 5. The committee shall meet at least four times per 21 |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | year, and at least once pe r calendar quarter, to evaluate 22 |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | and establish guidelines for school safety concerns, 23 |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | including plans to prevent school firearm violence. 24 |
|---|
| 39 | 39 | | 6. Except as provided in section 610.021, all meetings 25 |
|---|
| 40 | 40 | | of the committee shall be open to the public. 26 |
|---|
| 41 | 41 | | 7. The committee shall submit a report in writing to 27 |
|---|
| 42 | 42 | | the governor, president pro tempore of the senate, and 28 |
|---|
| 43 | 43 | | speaker of the house of representatives after each meeting 29 |
|---|
