33 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 352
44 Whereas, April is National Autism Acceptance Month, a
55 time to recognize and support children and families aff ected
66 by autism and other learning differences; and
77 Whereas, thousands of Missouri students are on
88 Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), including many
99 with autism, and they bring unique strengths and challenges
1010 into our classrooms; and
1111 Whereas, these students are often required to take
1212 standardized tests such as the Missouri Assessment Program
1313 assessments, even when those tests may not reflect their
1414 true learning or progress; and
1515 Whereas, Missouri's public schools continue to open
1616 their doors to every child, regardless of ability, when no
1717 one else will, providing care, support, and education with
1818 compassion and commitment; and
1919 Whereas, teachers, aides, therapists, and school staff
2020 work tirelessly to help students with IEPs succeed, often
2121 going above and beyond to meet individual needs:
2222 Now, Therefore, Be It Resolved that the members of the
2323 Missouri Senate, One Hundred and Third General Assembly,
2424 First Regular Session, hereby celebrate the month of April
2525 as Autism Acceptance Month, honor the students who face
2626 learning challenges with courage, and give special thanks to
2727 our public education system for embracing and supporting
2828 these children every day.
