7 | 7 | | Whereas, thousands of Missouri students are on |

8 | 8 | | Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), including many |

9 | 9 | | with autism, and they bring unique strengths and challenges |
---|
10 | 10 | | into our classrooms; and |
---|
11 | 11 | | Whereas, these students are often required to take |
---|
12 | 12 | | standardized tests such as the Missouri Assessment Program |
---|
13 | 13 | | assessments, even when those tests may not reflect their |
---|
14 | 14 | | true learning or progress; and |
---|
15 | 15 | | Whereas, Missouri's public schools continue to open |
---|
16 | 16 | | their doors to every child, regardless of ability, when no |
---|
17 | 17 | | one else will, providing care, support, and education with |
---|
18 | 18 | | compassion and commitment; and |
---|
19 | 19 | | Whereas, teachers, aides, therapists, and school staff |

20 | 20 | | work tirelessly to help students with IEPs succeed, often |

21 | 21 | | going above and beyond to meet individual needs: |

22 | 22 | | Now, Therefore, Be It Resolved that the members of the |
---|
23 | 23 | | Missouri Senate, One Hundred and Third General Assembly, |
---|
24 | 24 | | First Regular Session, hereby celebrate the month of April |
---|
25 | 25 | | as Autism Acceptance Month, honor the students who face |
---|
26 | 26 | | learning challenges with courage, and give special thanks to |
---|
27 | 27 | | our public education system for embracing and supporting |
---|
28 | 28 | | these children every day. |
