MISSISSIPPI LEGISLATURE 2025 Regular Session To: Rules By: Representatives Holloway (76th), Harness House Concurrent Resolution 62 (As Adopted by House and Senate) A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE DISTINGUISHED CAREER AND MERITORIOUS LEADERSHIP AND SERVICE OF MR. WILEY FRANKLIN JONES. WHEREAS, Wiley Franklin Jones was born in Laurel, Mississippi, as the ninth of 16 children to the late Mr. James Ira and Mrs. Geneva Jones, and he received his early education in the Jones County Public School District before enrolling at Alcorn State University in 1960, where he earned a bachelor of science in business administration in 1964; and WHEREAS, he later pursued a master's in business administration (MBA) from Mississippi College in 1973 and furthered his education with a Harvard University diploma in college and university administration, and additionally, he received certificates in college and university administration from the University of Nebraska at Omaha and the Motion Institute in Capohosic, Virginia; and WHEREAS, Mr. Jones has had a distinguished career, primarily at Alcorn State University, where he held various roles including dormitory counselor, receiving clerk, property officer, budget director, director of accounting, assistant business manager, and vice president for business and finance, and he also took leadership roles as director of special projects and interim athletic director at the university and worked as an accountant for the Claiborne County Teachers Federal Credit Union; and WHEREAS, in addition to his outstanding public service, Mr. Jones has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to civic and professional organizations, and he is an active member of Waterloo Missionary Baptist Church, serving as chairman of the Deacon Ministry and Trustee Ministry, and he is a life member of the Alcorn State University National Alumni Association-Alcorn Chapter and an Alcorn State University Foundation contributor; and WHEREAS, Mr. Jones is also involved in Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated, The Boy Scouts of America, and Free and Accepted Mason Lodge #708, and he has held numerous leadership positions, including serving as president of the Kiwanis International Alcorn Club in 1984; serving on the Personnel Committee and Student-Related Service Committee for the National Association of Colleges and Universities Business Officers (NACUBO); serving on the Board of Directors for the Southern Association of Colleges and Universities Business Officers (SACUBO); serving as a member of the National Association of Black Accountants (NABA); and serving on the Board of Directors for the Capital City Classic for 16 years; and WHEREAS, his involvement with the American Red Cross is notable, as he serves on the Boards of Directors for the Natchez District and Southwest Region Board in Jackson, Mississippi, and is part of the Regional Leadership Council for Mississippi, and he also serves as Chairman of the Diversity and Inclusion Committee for the American Red Cross; and WHEREAS, Mr. Jones has also contributed to the Claiborne County Economic Development District, where he was previously a member of the Board of Directors; and WHEREAS, over the years, Mr. Jones has received a multitude of awards and accolades for his work and contributions, as he was honored with the John A. Peoples-Walter Washington Humanitarian Award and has received the Alpha Man of the Year Award in 1975, 1977, 1979, and 1981; and WHEREAS, Mr. Jones was also the state director of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated, for 10 years, where he received the State Director of the Year Award in 1982 and 1991, and he also received the Scouting District Award of Merit and the Scouting Silver Beaver Award from the Boy Scouts of America; and WHEREAS, additionally, Mr. Jones received the Community Service Award from the Mount Olive Community, the Project Participation Award from the Delta Kappa Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated, and he was named Alumnus of the Year by the Alcorn State University School of Business in 2012, and he was also honored as Delta Man of the Year by the Alcorn Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated; and WHEREAS, Mr. Jones is truly unparalleled in his philanthropic efforts, as he has significantly contributed to Alcorn State University by donating $1,500 to the School of Business during their Honors' Program; he has served on the Executive Advisory Board for eight years; and along with his brothers, he established The James Ira and Geneva Jones Endowed Scholarship Fund, which supports students in business and agriculture, and those funds currently exceed $50,000, to reach $100,000 within the next two years; and WHEREAS, Mr. Jones and three brothers co-own Gen-Ira 16 Enterprises, an LLC that provides professional training and workplace prevention services, including sexual harassment prevention, and the business's name, Gen-Ira, honors their parents, Geneva and Ira, and their legacy of raising sixteen children; and WHEREAS, furthermore, Mr. Jones serves as the executive director of the Jefferson County Layman Association, and in 2023, he and his five brothers were recognized as the Legacy Family; and WHEREAS, Mr. Jones is married to Earlean Marshall, a graduate of Alcorn State University, and they have three adult children: Mike (Angela), Gerald (Jacqueline), and Denita, and they are proud grandparents of six granddaughters, one grandson, and two great-granddaughters; and WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to recognize and commend the magnificent contributions and unparalleled community service that exceptional Mississippians such as Mr. Jones provide to the citizens of this great Magnolia State: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend the distinguished career and meritorious leadership and service of Mr. Wiley Franklin Jones, and extend to him most sincere wishes for continued success in all his future endeavors.
