                            MISSISSIPPI LEGISLATURE 2025 Regular Session To: Rules By: Representative Shanks House Concurrent Resolution 64 (As Adopted by House and Senate) A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION CONGRATULATING MISSISSIPPI METHODIST HOSPITAL AND REHABILITATION CENTER UPON THE OCCASION OF ITS 50TH ANNIVERSARY AND COMMENDING THE INSTITUTION FOR 50 YEARS OF RESTORING ABILITIES AND HOPE TO THOSE WHO HAVE EXPERIENCED DISABLING ILLNESSES AND INJURIES.      WHEREAS, Mississippi Methodist Hospital and Rehabilitation Center, a freestanding, nonprofit comprehensive rehabilitation hospital located in Jackson, Mississippi, has served the citizens of Mississippi and beyond with unwavering dedication for 50 years, offering hope, healing, and restored independence to hundreds of thousands of patients with strokes, brain and spinal injuries, and other neurological and orthopedic conditions; and      WHEREAS, recognizing Mississippi's critical lack of rehabilitative care facilities for catastrophic injury patients, including those with strokes, brain injuries, and spinal cord injuries, the founders of Methodist Rehabilitation Center established the revolutionary hospital to fill this void and give patients an opportunity to seek treatment without leaving the state; and      WHEREAS, since admitting its first patient on May 5, 1975, Methodist Rehabilitation Center has remained unparalleled in its field, renowned as a place where miracles happen where patients who once believed they would never walk again are walking, where those who thought they would never work again are earning a living, and where individuals who once faced a lifetime confined to a hospital bed are now living independently and thriving in their communities; and      WHEREAS, over the past five decades, Methodist Rehabilitation Center has expanded from 60 beds to 124 beds, adding four floors to the hospital, and broadened its innovative services to increase access to care, including specialized outpatient therapy clinics and statewide orthotics and prosthetics clinics, which help patients regain function and reclaim their futures; and      WHEREAS, in 1998, Methodist Rehabilitation Center revolutionized the industry when it established the Center for Neuroscience and Neurological Recovery, which has pioneered important research to improve treatment outcomes, produced several hundred publications that have been disseminated worldwide, and advanced the global understanding of rehabilitative medicine; and      WHEREAS, six years later, Methodist Rehabilitation Center opened the Methodist Specialty Care Center, Mississippi's only facility dedicated to the long-term care of adults with severe disabilities, providing a breathtakingly beautiful and efficient home where residents can thrive, remain active, and enjoy life under the compassionate care of skilled professionals; and      WHEREAS, Methodist Rehabilitation Center was the first hospital in Mississippi to be named one of America's Best Hospitals by U.S. News & World Report, and the prestigious institution has since been recognized a second time, a testament to its continued excellence in the field of rehabilitative medicine; and      WHEREAS, in addition to increasing access to treatment for patients, Methodist Rehabilitation Center has also provided advanced clinical educational opportunities for thousands of students, including residency training for physicians and physical therapists, clinical rotations for nursing and therapy students, and occupational therapy for students completing a capstone project; and      WHEREAS, this outstanding institution's contributions to Mississippi's healthcare landscape have been truly transformational, setting a high standard for rehabilitative medicine and ensuring that individuals with disabilities receive the care, resources, and support necessary to lead fulfilling lives; and      WHEREAS, Methodist Rehabilitation Center has consistently upheld its mission as a nonprofit hospital, continuously reinvesting in innovative technology and clinical programs and ensuring that individuals receive the specialized care they need regardless of their financial circumstances; and       WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to recognize and commend excellence, such as that demonstrated by Mississippi Methodist Hospital and Rehabilitation Center, an exceptional institution that has made extraordinary contributions to the State of Mississippi over the last 50 years, diligently honoring its commitment to restore ability and hope to all those it serves:      NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby congratulate Mississippi Methodist Hospital and Rehabilitation Center upon the occasion of its 50th anniversary, commend the healthcare institution for five decades of restoring independence and improving lives, and extend our deepest gratitude to the physicians, researchers, healthcare professionals, staff, and volunteers who have made this hospital a beacon of hope and healing for so many.      BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Mississippi Methodist Hospital and Rehabilitation Center and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
