WHEREAS, Deven Bates, a freshman guard for the Copiah-Lincoln Community College (Co-Lin) Wolves Basketball Team, has been honored by being named to the prestigious Fab 50 JUCO Freshmen list by JucoRecruiting.com, an honor reserved for the most elite first-year junior college basketball players in the nation; and WHEREAS, donning the Number 12 jersey, standing at 6 feet 2 inches and hailing from Jackson, Mississippi, as a graduate of Hillcrest Christian School, Deven has emerged as one of the most dynamic and dominant players in junior college basketball, demonstrating exceptional skill, leadership and perseverance throughout his freshman season; and WHEREAS, his outstanding performance has significantly contributed to the success of the Co-Lin Wolves, earning him recognition among the top junior college freshmen basketball players in the United States; and WHEREAS, Deven led the Wolves in scoring, averaging an impressive 23.1 points per game, and finished the season as the leading scorer in the Mississippi Association of Community Colleges Conference (MACCC) and among the Top 5 scorers in NJCAA Division I; and WHEREAS, his all-around performance was exemplary, ranking among the Top 10 in the MACCC in multiple statistical categories, including 7.8 rebounds per game, 3.8 assists per game, and 2.1 steals per game, making him one of the most well-rounded players in the conference; and WHEREAS, his offensive efficiency was equally outstanding, boasting a 44.2% field goal percentage, 33.1% three-point shooting accuracy, and a 72.7% free throw percentage, making him one of the most consistent scoring threats on the court; and WHEREAS, Deven's 578 total points ranked third in the MACCC, while his 195 total rebounds placed him among the Top 10 rebounders in the conference, underscoring his ability to contribute in all facets of the game; and WHEREAS, his outstanding performances included a season-high 30-point effort in a thrilling overtime matchup against Northwest Mississippi, showcasing his ability to excel in high-pressure situations and reinforcing his reputation as a premier talent in JUCO basketball; and WHEREAS, Deven's exceptional season also earned him First Team All-MACCC honors, in addition to multiple MACCC Player of the Week awards, solidifying his status as one of the most decorated freshmen in the nation; and WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize excellence in the state's student-athletes of Deven's incredible caliber, and for whom this remarkable recognition not only brings honor to himself, but reflects greatly upon Copiah-Lincoln Community College, the MACCC, and the State of Mississippi, serving as a testament to the talent, discipline and hard work cultivated within the state's community college athletics: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Deven Bates for his remarkable achievement of being named to the Fab 50 JUCO Freshmen list and extend best wishes for his continued success both on and off the basketball court.
