1-MISSISSIPPI LEGISLATURE 2025 Regular Session To: Rules By: Representative Eure House Resolution 116 (As Adopted by House) A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE ST. PATRICK WOMEN'S SOCCER TEAM, AFFECTIONATELY KNOWN AS THE LADY IRISH, ON WINNING THE SOUTH STATE CHAMPIONSHIP. WHEREAS, the amazing ladies on St. Patrick Women's Soccer Team, affectionately known as the Lady Irish, are the 2025 South State Champions; and WHEREAS, these impressive young women worked hard to overcome many obstacles during this season to accomplish this great task; and WHEREAS, the 2024-2025 season began with a new head coach, Angela McClure, and some devastating news that one of the Lady Irish starting players from the 2023-2024 season had been diagnosed with an aggressive cancer, and that the team lost four other starting players (seniors, etc.), forcing the team to begin its quest to a state title with a new generation of players and with a special dedication of their season to their teammate, Katherine Adams; and WHEREAS, motivated by their need to honor their teammate and overcome adversity, the Lady Irish once again made it to the state championship game and clinched the title by defeating Tupelo Christian Prep for the third year in a row by a score of 4-0; and WHEREAS, many individual players on the team have also earned great accolades, including Bella Jordan, who was named Most Valuable Player of the game after leading the scoring with a hat trick, and she was also named Sun Herald's Player of the Year in 2024; and WHEREAS, Bella Jordan and Anna Katherine Thriffiley also earned a spot on the Coast All-Star East Team for the second year in a row and were the only goal scorers for the team during the Coast All-Star game this year; and WHEREAS, Anna Katherine Thriffiley was also named Coast Female Player of the Year for the 2024-2025 season as well as Offensive Player of the Game for the Coast All-Star game, and Bella Jordan and Anna Katherine Thriffiley have both earned the title "Student Athlete of the Week" during the 2024-2025 season for their contributions as both students and athletes; and WHEREAS, before this championship win, the team made its first ever appearance in the state championship game under the leadership of Coach Adam Smith during the 2020-2021 season, and again during the 2021-2022 season, but came up short to Our Lady Academy 0-2; and WHEREAS, the 2022-2023 season was a gamechanger for the team, the Lady Irish returned to the South State Championship defeating Our Lady Academy and went on to win its first State Championship title in school history under the leadership of Coach Cassandra Terry and Assistant Coach Angela McClure; and WHEREAS, that same season, the team's win over Tupelo Christian Prep (6-0) brought great honor to the team, players and coach, when Linda Mustered received the Most Valuable Player award for this game and Coach Terry was named Sun Herald's Coach of the Year; and WHEREAS, during the 2023-2024 season, the Lady Irish lost five starting seniors, but still returned to capture the state championship under the leadership of Head Coach Cassandra Terry and Assistant Coach Angela McClure when they defeated Tupelo Christian Prep 7-0, and Anna Katherine Thriffiley received the Most Valuable Player award for this game after scoring a hat trick; and WHEREAS, the leadership of this St. Patrick team hopes to continue to build a thriving soccer program in which players can excel both on and off the field: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the St. Patrick Women's Soccer Team, affectionately known as the Lady Irish, on winning the South State Championship. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Coach Angela McClure, soccer players of the 2024-2025 Lady Irish team and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
