1-MISSISSIPPI LEGISLATURE 2025 Regular Session To: Rules By: Representative Horan House Resolution 122 (As Adopted by House) A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE COFFEEVILLE HIGH SCHOOL PIRATES BOYS BASKETBALL TEAM AND HEAD COACH DEMARIUS BUSH UPON AN OUTSTANDING SEASON AND UPON WINNING THE 2025 MISSISSIPPI HIGH SCHOOL ACTIVITIES ASSOCIATION (MHSAA) CLASS 1A BOYS BASKETBALL STATE CHAMPIONSHIP. WHEREAS, the Coffeeville High School Pirates Boys Basketball Team wrapped up their dynamic season on February 28, 2025, at the Mississippi Coliseum by bringing home the gold ball after capturing the 2025 MHSAA Class 1A Boys Basketball State Championship, which has brought exceptional pride to the Coffeeville School District; and WHEREAS, this spectacular win at the "Big House", which occurred when the Pirates defeated Baldwyn 63-45, marks the Pirates third state title in school history and is the first state title since 1958, which is a testament of the immense talent and drive that this dominant team executed; and WHEREAS, the Pirates were superbly coached and inspired by Head Coach Demarius Bush who was fittingly named Region 3-1A Coach of the Year, and who, along with Assistant Coach Stanford Spearman, Sr., broadened the players' knowledge of the game and refined their skills in execution; and WHEREAS, the talented student-athletes of the Coffeeville High School Boys Basketball Team are as follows: Juelz Cooper, Stanford Spearman, Jr., Jarvis Ross, Kashun Kincaid, Devarin Scott, Justin Coffey, De'lanta Tellis, Khalil Chairse, Jamarion Robertson, Joshua Brooks, Alandis Smith, Tacorion Reed, Jacoby Hayes and the late Quinterion Love, whose memory was a driving force in helping the Pirates secure their first state title in 67 years; and WHEREAS, although each member of the Coffeeville High School Boys Basketball Team worked hard this season, several of the Pirates have been recognized for their hard work, dedication and superior play, which resulted in the naming of the following: Standford Spearman, Jr.- Region 3-1A MVP, State Championship Game MVP and First All State Tournament Team; Jarvis Ross Region 3-1A First All Tournament Team and First All State Tournament Team; De'lanta Tellis - First All State Tournament Team; Tacorion Reed - Region 3-1A Best Offensive Player; Justin Coffey - Region 3-1A First All Tournament Team and Juelz Cooper - Region 3-1A First All Tournament Team; and WHEREAS, the Coffeeville Pirates have developed a winning and cooperative spirt and a superb degree of sportsmanship and their activities and attitude reflect great credit upon the individual players and their coaches, parents and fans as well as great honor and pride for Coffeeville High School; and WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize and commend excellence, especially when evidenced by the talented youth of our state, who are its future: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Coffeeville High School Pirates Boys Basketball Team and Head Coach Demarius Bush and Assistant Coach Stanford Spearman, Sr., for displaying tireless devotion to their athletic endeavors and upon winning the 2025 MHSAA Class 1A Boys Basketball State Championship. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Head Coach Demarius Bush, Coffeeville High School and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
