                            MISSISSIPPI LEGISLATURE 2025 Regular Session To: Rules By: Representative Anthony House Resolution 124 (As Adopted by House) A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING DR. MISKIA DAVIS UPON HER RETIREMENT AND EXPRESSING OUR DEEPEST GRATITUDE FOR HER YEARS OF DISTINGUISHED SERVICE.      WHEREAS, Dr. Miskia Davis, a devoted educator and distinguished leader, is retiring after over 25 years of unwavering commitment to the students, teachers, and families of Sunflower County, having most recently served with honor and distinction as Superintendent of the Sunflower County Consolidated School District (SCCSD); and      WHEREAS, Dr. Davis began her impactful career as a math and science teacher at Ruleville Central High School, where she inspired young minds for six years, and continued her journey in educational leadership as Assistant Principal at Lockard Elementary, Principal of Moorhead Middle School, and later, Principal at Ruleville Middle School; and      WHEREAS, believing wholeheartedly that "every child is capable of learning," Dr. Davis has been a tireless advocate for teacher support and professional development, recognizing that happy and healthy educators are essential to cultivating students who are college, career, and community ready; and      WHEREAS, Dr. Davis has led the Sunflower County Consolidated School District to historic gains in academic achievement, including maintaining a "B" rating for three consecutive years, achieving the highest performance ranking among school districts in the Mississippi Delta, and improving 140 points from an "F" rating in 2018 to a score of 610 in 2024 ranking among the top 100 districts in the state; and      WHEREAS, under her visionary leadership, 9 out of 11 schools in the district are now rated "C" or higher, and the district has not had a school rated "F" since spring 2018, demonstrating a transformative culture of excellence and accountability; and      WHEREAS, throughout her tenure, Dr. Davis has had a steady hand in guiding our district from failing to thriving often met with criticism, yet never wavering in her mission to improve the lives of our students, and her resilience and steadfast focus have been instrumental in reshaping public education in our community; and      WHEREAS, Dr. Davis is a proud graduate of Delta State University, where she earned a bachelor of science and master of science in chemistry, a master of education, and an educational specialist in administration and leadership, and she further earned her Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) from William Carey University; and      WHEREAS, her legacy is one of unwavering dedication, integrity, and a deep-rooted belief in the potential of every child and every teacher, and she leaves behind a transformed school district and a stronger community because of her leadership; and      WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize and commend the service of remarkable public servants like Dr. Miskia Davis, whose efforts have uplifted and inspired generations:      NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Dr. Miskia Davis upon her retirement, express our deepest gratitude for her years of distinguished service, and extend to her warmest wishes for continued success and happiness in the years to come.      BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Dr. Miskia Davis, the Sunflower County Consolidated School District, and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
