HOLLY BECK FOR NEARLY 30 YEARS OF MUSIC EDUCATION IN DESOTO COUNTY AS SHE RETIRES AS THE DIRECTOR OF CHORAL MUSIC AT HORN LAKE HIGH SCHOOL. WHEREAS, Holly Beck has dedicated nearly 30 years to music education in DeSoto County, Mississippi, significantly impacting the choral programs at Horn Lake High School, and now, upon the occasion of her retirement, her unwavering dedication and hard work ethic will leave an insatiable void in the lives of her students and colleagues; and WHEREAS, Ms. Beck began her illustrious career at Walls Elementary and Horn Lake Middle School, and since 2006, she has served as the Director of Choral Music at Horn Lake High School, benefiting the students with her expertise and talent; and WHEREAS, under her remarkable leadership, the Horn Lake High School choirs have achieved consistent superior ratings at festivals and assessments, and Ms. Beck has facilitated performances at prestigious venues, including St. Patrick's Cathedral in New York City and collaborations with the British a cappella ensemble VOCES8 in London; and WHEREAS, Ms. Beck has always been filled with an eagerness to mold the minds of the younger generation and instill in them a love for music, and in recognition of her contributions, she received the Ernestine Ferrell Award for Excellence in Choral Music in 2022, the highest honor for a music educator in Mississippi; and WHEREAS, beyond performances, Ms. Beck initiated "signing events" to celebrate students receiving choral scholarships, akin to athletic scholarship signings, and her devotion to her students has inspired many students to pursue music careers, with alumni participating in various ensembles, including military choirs; and WHEREAS, as she prepares to retire, Ms. Beck leaves a legacy of excellence and inspiration in choral music education, having profoundly influenced her students and the broader community, and her career has been a shining example of dedication and excellence in her field; and WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize and commend excellent Mississippi educators, especially those such as Ms. Holly Beck, whose superb leadership and instruction as the Director of Choral Music at Horn Lake High School has bettered the lives of the youth of Desoto County, bringing much pride to the county, the school and the State of Mississippi: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby recognize and honor Ms. Holly Beck for nearly 30 years of music education in Desoto County as she retires as the Director of Choral Music at Horn Lake High School, and extend most sincere wishes for peace and joy in the lighter days ahead. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Ms. Holly Beck and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps. |
