MISSISSIPPI LEGISLATURE 2025 Regular Session To: Rules By: Representative Barton House Resolution 13 (As Adopted by House) A RESOLUTION COMMENDING MR. JAMES ARTHUR TROCHESSET ON THE AUSPICIOUS AND BLESSED OCCASION OF HIS 100TH BIRTHDAY. WHEREAS, it is written in 3 John 1:2 "Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers" and on February 9, 2025, Mr. James Arthur Trochesset, will continue to realize this promise of health and prosperity when he becomes a member of the very special Centenarian Club on the auspicious occasion of his 100th birthday; and WHEREAS, born on February 9, 1925, as one of eleven children to Paul and Katie Trochesset, he grew up surrounded by love and brothers who were passionate about service to their country; and WHEREAS, immediately after graduating from D'Iberville High School in 1942, James tried to follow in his brothers' footsteps by attempting to join the Navy, but, much to his disappointment, the Navy would not allow him to join because he was only seventeen years old, so James returned home to work at Woolworths until his eighteenth birthday; and WHEREAS, at that time, his brothers, Eric, Earl and RV, had joined the Navy, and his brother, Harold, was in the Coast Guard; and WHEREAS, as soon as he turned 18, James jumped at the chance to sign up for the draft by trying to join the Navy again, but was told the Navy was not taking new recruits; and WHEREAS, driven by his passion to serve his country, James joined the Merchant Marines and spent four years sailing around the world on several different ships during World War II; and WHEREAS, he enjoyed his time as an Able Bodied Seaman (ABS) and made fond memories during his time of service by attempting to catch the shells coming out of guns and throwing them overboard, but in reality, he let them fall to deck and then picked them up and tossed them overboard; and WHEREAS, his journeys as ABS took him to New Guinea, Australia, Puerto Rico, Cuba, Antwerp, Belgium, France, Italy and India, he was able to ride the "The Sea Hyzer" which was built at Ingalls in Pascagoula, but his last trip to New Guinea was most memorable because the ship was setting off coast near an airbase when a Japanese plane following fighters back dropped a bomb that landed just feet from his ship, and he also came under fire going through the Strait of Gibraltar; and WHEREAS, upon returning home, he went to work at Ford Motor Company in downtown Biloxi, where he met the love of his life, Eleanor Ryan, and married her in 1947; and WHEREAS, he moved Eleanor and his family to Pascagoula in the early 1960s, when he went to work for Coastal Chemical, which was later named Mississippi Chemical; and WHEREAS, he and Eleanor were a formidable team, and like their love, their family continued to grow, eventually blessing them with a total of ten children, eighteen grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; and WHEREAS, James and Eleanor's home was also home to their children's friends, who came over often and remained for days at a time, much to the excitement and fun of the other siblings; and WHEREAS, in keeping with his family's legacy of service to their country, three of his six sons, Zachary, Jim, and Gerald, joined the military and served in Vietnam; and WHEREAS, in 1963, he went to work for Standard Oil Refinery, which later became the Chevron Refinery, when it opened in Pascagoula, and was one of the first one hundred employees hired; and WHEREAS, he worked earnestly at the Refinery until he retired at the age of 61 after 23 dedicated years as an employee; and WHEREAS, it is most appropriate to celebrate the lives of Mississippians whose life and longevity are a testament to God's grace and mercy, who have served this country with passion and continued the legacy of service to the United States with his children and grandchildren: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Mr. James Arthur Trochesset on the auspicious and blessed occasion of his 100th birthday, and wish him continued health and wellness in years to come. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Mr. James Arthur Trochesset, his wife, Eleanor, and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
