1-MISSISSIPPI LEGISLATURE 2025 Regular Session To: Rules By: Representatives Lott, Barton, Burch House Resolution 57 (As Adopted by House) A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE GEORGE COUNTY HIGH SCHOOL BOYS SOCCER TEAM AND HEAD COACH TYLER WILLIAMS ON WINNING THE 2025 MISSISSIPPI HIGH SCHOOL ACTIVITIES ASSOCIATION CLASS 6A BOYS SOCCER STATE CHAMPIONSHIP. WHEREAS, on February 17, 2025, the George County High School Boys Soccer Team defeated Center Hill High School in the 2025 Mississippi High School Activities Association Class 6A Boys Soccer State Championship, incredibly making both program and school history by bringing home to Lucedale the Rebels's first championship trophy in their first ever title game appearance; and WHEREAS, the championship, played in Jackson, Mississippi, proved to be quite a nailbiter, with the contest being scoreless in double overtime before George County's Sam Rogers scored the game winning goal from an assist by Jordan Duran during the Golden Goal round of overtime; and WHEREAS, while both teams showcased exemplary skill and determination throughout the game, the Rebels Soccer Team, boasting an 18-4 record going into the championship, ultimately dominated on the field to secure the 1-0 victory for their 16th consecutive win; and WHEREAS, throughout the season, the performance of all players on the Rebels Team, whether on the field or the sideline, was nothing less than spectacular, and for their impressive play, several team members were honored with top awards, including: Gavin Knowles, who was presented the BSN Scholar Athlete Award; Game Ball to Beau Tanner, who had a clean sheet in goal at the championship game; and Sam Rogers, named State Most Valuable Player; and WHEREAS, the George County High School Soccer Team's record and statistics for the season are impressive, but the true key to the team's consistent success has been the squad's passion for the game and unparalleled spirit of teamwork and sportsmanship, as well as the year-round hard work by each and every individual team member to be the best athlete he can possibly be; and WHEREAS, the Rebels Soccer Team, superbly coached and inspired by Head Coach Tyler Williams, who has broadened the players' knowledge of the game and refined their skills in execution, has been tirelessly supported and encouraged with each challenging game, on both their home turf and away, by the school district and local community; and WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize and commend the superb accomplishments of Mississippi student-athletes, especially those such as the George County High School Boys Soccer Team, whose excellence on the field and in the classroom bring honor to their school, community and the entire State of Mississippi: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the George County High School Boys Soccer Team and Head Coach Tyler Williams on winning the 2025 Mississippi High School Activities Association Class 6A Boys Soccer State Championship and extend best wishes to the team members and coaches for continued success in all their future endeavors.
