                            MISSISSIPPI LEGISLATURE 2025 Regular Session To: Rules By: Representative Hall House Resolution 86 (As Adopted by House)  A RESOLUTION HONORING THE LIFE AND SERVICE OF CHIEF WARRANT OFFICER 4 DEREK JOSHUA ABBOTT AND CHIEF WARRANT OFFICER 4 BRYAN ANDREW ZEMEK AND MEMORIALIZING THE DEDICATION OF TWO NEW HELIPADS ON CAMP SHELBY'S PARADE FIELD IN THEIR HONOR.      WHEREAS, it is with great distinction that two new helipads on Camp Shelby's Parade Field will memorialize the lives of two brave soldiers, Chief Warrant Officer 4 Derek Joshua Abbott and Chief Warrant Officer 4 Bryan Andrew Zemek, who serviced this country and this great state with great pride; and      WHEREAS, the Alpha Helipad is dedicated in memory of Chief Warrant Officer 4 Derek J. Abbott and the Zulu Helipad is dedicated in memory of Chief Warrant Officer 4 Bryan A. Zemek; and      WHEREAS, the one year anniversary of their passing was February 23, 2025, and to honor their sacrifice, the Mississippi Guard will host a ceremony in their honor later this year; and      WHEREAS, the lives of Chief Warrant Officer 4 Derek J. Abbott and Chief Warrant Officer 4 Bryan A. Zemek were tragically lost on February 23, 2024, when Apache Helicopter, Tail Number 52630, went down near Booneville, Mississippi; and      WHEREAS, Chief Warrant Officer 4 Derek J. Abbott was a 42-year-old Maintenance Test Pilot assigned to Delta Company of the 2nd Battalion, 151st Security and Support Aeromedical Evacuation unit in Tupelo, Mississippi; and      WHEREAS, an experienced Master Army Aviator and combat veteran, Chief Warrant Officer 4 Derek J. Abbott served his country for 21 years with dedication and valor, held 3,092 military flight hours and was an expert in Army operations, aviation maintenance, and aeronautics; and       WHEREAS, he was a loving husband and father grounded in strong Christian faith; and      WHEREAS, as a civilian, he served as a pilot in emergency medical services, and was also an entrepreneur and private aircraft owner who was passionate about general aviation and aeronautics; and      WHEREAS, Chief Warrant Officer 4 Bryan A. Zemek, was also an amazing serviceman and member of the Mississippi National Guardsman; and       WHEREAS, this 36-year-old Standardization Instructor Pilot was assigned to Alpha Company, 1st Battalion, 149th Aviation Regiment in Tupelo, Mississippi; and      WHEREAS, a technically adept Master Army Aviator who served his country with distinction for nearly two decades, Chief Warrant Officer 4 Bryan A. Zemek was a combat veteran with over 3,264 military flight hours and whose extensive expertise included aircraft gunnery, weapon systems, combat arms, operations, and tactics.      WHEREAS, he was known as a career aviator, a valiant warrior, and an avid outdoorsman who embraced adventure and personal challenge; and      WHEREAS, above all other things, Chief Warrant Officer 4 Bryan A. Zemek enjoyed being a father and husband who embodied the values of faith, family, and patriotism; and      WHEREAS, it is most appropriate to honor the sacrifice of Mississippi servicemen, whose commitment to their families to our country and the great State of Mississippi are a testament to their character:      NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby honor the life and service of Chief Warrant Officer 4 Derek Joshua Abbott and Chief Warrant Officer 4 Bryan Andrew Zemek and memorialize the dedication of two new helipads, the Alpha Helipad and the Zulu Helipad, on Camp Shelby's Parade Field in their honor.      BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to the family of Chief Warrant Officer 4 Derek Joshua Abbott and Chief Warrant Officer 4 Bryan Andrew Zemek, the leadership of Camp Shelby and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
