                            MISSISSIPPI LEGISLATURE 2025 Regular Session To: Rules By: Representative Hall House Resolution 87 (As Adopted by House) A RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING AND COMMENDING DESOTO COUNTY DEPUTY SHERIFF BRIAN BROCK FOR HIS OUTSTANDING COURAGE IN THE LINE OF DUTY AND HEROIC ACTIONS IN PROTECTING DRIVERS FROM AN ONCOMING VEHICLE.      WHEREAS, on March 4, 2025, without reserve or hesitation, DeSoto County Deputy Sheriff Brian Brock bravely positioned his department SUV in the path of an oncoming vehicle to prevent a potentially catastrophic collision and protect the lives of his fellow motorists; and       WHEREAS, after encountering a vehicle speeding down Interstate 269 in the wrong direction, Deputy Brock made a split-second decision to shield the other drivers on the road by blocking the rapidly approaching vehicle, taking the impact head-on to keep others out of harm's way; and      WHEREAS, recounting the fateful moments before the crash, Deputy Brock recalled that he tugged on his seatbelt twice before saying, "This is it for me, but I'm going to do it;" however, he remained fearlessly resolute in his course of action despite knowing the choice to intervene may be his last; and      WHEREAS, other drivers on the road that night have expressed their immense gratitude for Deputy Brock's quick actions and intrepid conviction, with one driver remembering, "My life flashed in front of me, and I closed my eyes; when I opened them, I saw that deputy car;" and      WHEREAS, though Deputy Brock was rushed to the hospital following the crash, the community of Southaven, Mississippi, now breathes a collective sigh of relief as he has been released to continue his recovery at home; and      WHEREAS, we owe a great debt to those who answer the call to protect and serve in order that peace and prosperity may abound for all citizens; and       WHEREAS, as DeSoto County Sheriff Thomas E. Tuggle II so profoundly stated, "The hardest choices require the strongest will," and Deputy Brock's incredible strength of will, dauntless fortitude, and unwavering resolve in the face of imminent danger has brought great pride to the State of Mississippi and particularly, the City of Southaven; and      WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to commend public servants such as Deputy Brian Brock, who embodies all of the characteristics of a true American hero and nobly represents the best of Mississippi's law enforcement:      NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby recognize and commend DeSoto County Deputy Sheriff Brian Brock for his heroic actions and incredible courage in the line of duty.      BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Deputy Brian Brock and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
