                            MISSISSIPPI LEGISLATURE 2025 Regular Session To: Rules By: Representatives Aguirre, Boyd (19th), Thompson, Turner House Resolution 90 (As Adopted by House) A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE TUPELO HIGH SCHOOL "GOLDEN WAVE" FOOTBALL TEAM AND HEAD COACH TY HARDIN UPON WINNING THE 2024 MISSISSIPPI HIGH SCHOOL ACTIVITIES ASSOCIATION (MHSAA) CLASS 7A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP.      WHEREAS, the Tupelo High School "Golden Wave" Football Team emerged victorious against Brandon High School in the 2024 Mississippi High School Activities Association (MHSAA) Class 7A State Championship with a commanding 28-16 victory at M.M. Roberts Stadium on the campus of the University of Southern Mississippi, securing their first state title since 1992; and      WHEREAS, finishing the season with an outstanding 14-0 record, Tupelo demonstrated dominance throughout the season and capped off their remarkable campaign with a championship performance that showcased their resilience, discipline and exceptional talent; and      WHEREAS, from the opening kickoff, the Golden Wave controlled the game, jumping out to an early lead behind the stellar play of MHSAA Class 7A Mr. Football, running back Jaeden Hill, a 2026 Mississippi State commit, who delivered a phenomenal performance with 224 rushing yards on 34 carries, 37 receiving yards, and three total touchdowns to propel his team to victory; and      WHEREAS, Tupelo struck first with a six-yard rushing touchdown from Hill in the first quarter and quickly extended the lead when quarterback Noah Gillon connected with Hill on a 37-yard touchdown reception to put the Golden Wave up 14-0 before Brandon secured its first, first down of the game; and      WHEREAS, the Golden Wave's defense showcased their dominance, shutting out Brandon in the first half before a blocked punt recovery and a field goal in the third quarter allowed the Bulldogs to cut Tupelo's lead to 14-10; and      WHEREAS, as momentum threatened to shift in Brandon's favor, Tupelo's offense responded in the fourth quarter with Gillon executing a brilliant 15-yard rushing touchdown, followed by Hill's game-sealing 32-yard touchdown run with 55 seconds remaining; and      WHEREAS, Tupelo's championship victory was a testament to their balanced approach, with a defense that held Brandon's high-powered offense, which had averaged over 40 points per game, to just 16 points, while an explosive offense ensured the Golden Wave never trailed at any point in the game; and      WHEREAS, Head Coach Ty Hardin, with his leadership and strategic prowess, along with assistant coaches, Aubry Bell, Jordan Graham, Matt Haygood, Reed Hill, Brandon Jackson, Brian Jones, Brian Kilgore, Jayme McIntosh, Tereif Osborne, Trey Ward and Daniel Young, have instilled a culture of hard work, perseverance and championship mentality within the Tupelo football program, leading the team to a historic season and the long-awaited state championship; and      WHEREAS, the unwavering support of the Tupelo community, school administration, faculty, parents and fans played an integral role in the team's success, as their encouragement fueled the Golden Wave's relentless pursuit of excellence; and      WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize and commend the outstanding achievements of Mississippi student-athletes, especially those such as the Tupelo High School "Golden Wave" Football Team, whose hard work, determination and championship spirit bring honor to their school, their community and the State of Mississippi:      NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Tupelo High School "Golden Wave" Football Team and Head Coach Ty Hardin upon winning the 2024 MHSAA Class 7A State Championship and extend best wishes for continued success in all their future athletic and academic endeavors.      BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Head Coach Ty Hardin, on behalf of the Tupelo High School "Golden Wave" Football Team, and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
