WHEREAS, we join the Mississippi basketball competition community and the citizens of Moorehead and Indianola, Mississippi, in recognizing the basketball players and coaching championships and accomplishments of Sarita "Bugg" Cooper-White; and WHEREAS, Sarita Cooper-White's women's basketball accomplishments: Gentry High School: Started four years for Coach Charles Williams at Gentry High School; Named "Miss Basketball" for the State of Mississippi after guiding Gentry to the Class 4A State Championship and Grand Slam Championship with a perfect 40-0 record in 2006-2007; Led Gentry High School to overall "Tournament of Champions" title; Named to The Clarion-Ledger "Dandy Dozen"; Selected to play in the North/South Junior All-Star Game her junior season, earning the Defensive MVP Award; Selected to play in the Alabama All-Star Game her senior season; Named MHSAA All-State her junior and senior seasons; Named Class 4A Player of the Year; Earned Team MVP, Leadership Award, and Best Defensive Player honors her junior and senior seasons; One of the top 10 recruits in Mississippi in 2006-2007; and Delta State University: Ranked third all-time in NCAA Division II history for assists (963), while ranking first in Delta State University and GSC history; The 32nd player to top the 1,000 point plateau in the 87-40 victory over Southern Arkansas (2/3/11); Led NCAA Division II in assists the past three seasons; Averages 8.1 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 6.71 assists per game in her career; Recorded 192 career steals; Named to Gulf South Conference West Division All-Decade Second Team this past summer; Named to Gulf South Conference (GSC) West Division; Player of the Week in January 2011; Named to Second Team All-Region by Daktronics in 2011; Named to WBCA Honorable Mention list three years in a row (2009-2011); Named to 2010-2011 All-GSC First Team; Ended career with 1,095 points, 530 rebounds, 963 assists and 249 steals; and Coaching Career: Named Head Coach at Gentry High School in 2017-2018; Won the District Championship in 2017, 2018, and 2019; Named Coach of the Year in the District in 2017, 2018, and 2019; Led the Lady Rams to the semi-finals in the playoffs in 2017-2018; Led the Lady Rams to the first-round play offs in 2018-2019; Named Head Coach at Washington School in 2024-2025; season record 26-7; MAIS 2025 4A North State Champions. Led the Lady Generals to the 4A State Championship, becoming the Runners-Up in 2025 while advancing to the Overall Tournament; Selected to coach in the MAIS 4A, 5A, and 6A Girls' All-Star Game; and WHEREAS, Sarita "Bugg" Cooper-White played for Delta State University Women's Basketball from 2007-2011. She was a two-time All-American in 2010 and 2011, an All-Gulf South Conference selection from 2009-2011, and an All-Region selection in 2009 and 2010. Cooper-White tallied 1,027 career points, 249 career steals, and 963 career assists in 134 games played, both of which rank second in program history; and WHEREAS, Delta State University Athletics has announced the Class of 2025 Hall of Fame that features women's basketball, football, baseball, golf and swimming and diving. Indianola's Sarita "Bugg" Cooper-White headlines this year's class; and WHEREAS, Coach Sarita "Bugg" Cooper-White is a legendary figure in the realm of high school and college athletics. Her unmatched leadership, dedication, and positive impact on the Indianola Gentry High School and Delta State University Girls Basketball programs bring honor to her school, her university and to the State of Mississippi: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby recognize the legendary basketball competition career of Delta State University 2025 Sports Hall of Fame inductee Sarita "Bugg" Cooper-White, and extend to Sarita and her family our thanks and best wishes for future success.
