                            MISSISSIPPI LEGISLATURE 2025 Regular Session To: Rules By: Senator(s) Sparks, Chism Senate Concurrent Resolution 541 (As Adopted by Senate and House) A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE BOONEVILLE HIGH SCHOOL LADY BLUE DEVILS GIRLS BASKETBALL TEAM AND HEAD COACH MICHAEL SMITH FOR WINNING THE MHSAA CLASS 3A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP WHICH IS THEIR THIRD TITLE IN FOUR YEARS AND FIFTH OVERALL.      WHEREAS, Booneville High School Lady Blue Devils Girls Basketball Team (27-5) kept its foot on the gas from the first minute until the final buzzer to win the MHSAA Class 3A State Championship by a score of 59-33 on February 28, 2025.  Experience paid off for Boonville, controlling the court against Jefferson Davis County from the opening tip; and      WHEREAS, it was the Lady Blue Devils' third state title in four years and fifth overall; and      WHEREAS, Ava Kathryn Smith, who had a double-double with 20 points and 10 rebounds, was named the game's MVP.  Sa'Niyah Cook scored 16 points.  Jayda Porter had eight points for Jefferson Davis County (25-6), and Kevionna Myers had seven; and      WHEREAS, the 2024-2025 Booneville High School Lady Blue Devils Girls Basketball Team Roster:  Ava Kathryn Smith, Adler Doran, Ayla Hinds, Jazalynn Philpot, Makylah Pippins, Claire Gardner, Kellan Johnson, Jordyn Shumpert, Kylee Johnson, Rhiannon Alexander, Bella Nunley, Taylor Brooke White, Sa'niyah Cook, Cameya Hampton, Emma Perrigo, Mylee Stacks, Shaniya McGee and Zyria Floyd; Head Coach Michael Smith; and Assistant Coaches Corey Johnson, Micah Moment and Bryant Tynes; and      WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize these student athletes who, along with the Booneville Boys Team, have brought honor to their school, their community and to the State of Mississippi:      NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Booneville High School Lady Blue Devils Girls Basketball Team and Head Coach Michael Smith for winning the MHSAA Class 3A State Championship, which is their third title in four years and fifth overall, and extend to the team, coaches, parents and sponsors our best wishes for continued state championships.      BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Head Coach Michael Smith for the team, forwarded to Booneville Principal Dr. Brent Hodge and the Prentiss County Board of Education, and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
