                            MISSISSIPPI LEGISLATURE 2025 Regular Session To: Rules By: Senator(s) Whaley, Chism Senate Resolution 115 (As Adopted by Senate) A RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING THE LEGENDARY LEGACY OF INGOMAR HIGH SCHOOL AWARD-WINNING SPORTS STAR MACIE PHIFER.      WHEREAS, There has been plenty of high-level talent to come through the State of Mississippi through the years.  However, at the high school level, New Albany's Ingomar High School's multi-sport star Macie Phifer has arguably the best athletic resume; and      WHEREAS, Macie Phifer has certainly made her mark on the Magnolia State.  She will leave her high school career with seven total state championships between basketball and volleyball.  Her individual awards include Gatorade Mississippi Player of the Year, MHSAA 2A Miss Basketball for the third consecutive season, and MaxPreps Mississippi Player of the Year for girls' basketball.  Her 3,519 career points give her the program record for most points in a career at Ingomar for both boys and girls.  Phifer is also a two-time Miss Volleyball winner; and      WHEREAS, despite all the success, the awards, championships and media attention, Phifer has always remained humble.  With a bright smile on her face, she deflected the glory, saying that none of it would have been possible without all of those around her.  "I'm just so grateful for my teammates.  I've played with some of the most amazing girls that I could have had.  I've had a large amount of talent that's surrounded me every time that I've put on that jersey," said Phifer; and      WHEREAS, the 5 foot 11 inch junior wing averaged 20.1 points and 6.1 rebounds this basketball season while leading Ingomar (32-4) to the MHSAA Class 2A State Championship and winning its third title in four years; and      WHEREAS, with a resume and talent like Macie's, there is no question that college coaches have been knocking at her door since she was a high school freshman.  Phifer will be attending Middle Tennessee State, a highly successful women's basketball program; and      WHEREAS, we will want to remember the name Macie Phifer, but those who have watched her dominate the State of Mississippi for the last six years can never forget.  As she moves on to college to continue her journey, she will leave behind a legacy that may never be matched, but one that will be remembered forever; and      WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we commend a Mississippi athlete whose championships and awards leave a legendary legacy and who has brought honor to her school, her community and to the State of Mississippi:      NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby recognize the legendary legacy of Ingomar High School award-winning sports star Macie Phifer, and extend to Macie and her family our best wishes for future success at the college level.      BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Macie Phifer, forwarded to Ingomar High School Principal Roben Denton, and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
