1-MISSISSIPPI LEGISLATURE 2025 Regular Session To: Rules By: Senator(s) Horhn, Michel, Frazier, Norwood, Blount Senate Resolution 119 (As Adopted by Senate) A RESOLUTION MOURNING THE LOSS OF JACKSON POLICE DEPARTMENT CORPORAL CHRISTOPHER GALLION, SR. WHEREAS, we join the Jackson Police Department in mourning the loss of Corporal Christopher Gallion, Sr., Badge Number 1775, who experienced a medical emergency on duty and passed away on March 13, 2025; and WHEREAS, Corporal Christopher Gallion, Sr., was affectionately known as "Sir Gallion". He was a graduate of Jim Hill High School and the "Mighty 43rd" Jackson Police Department Recruit Class and a law enforcement veteran of 17 years. The Jackson Police Department stated, "Throughout his career, he served with honor, integrity, and an unwavering commitment to protecting and serving his community. His leadership, mentorship, and kindness touched the lives of so many, both in and out of uniform; and WHEREAS, Jackson Police Department Chief Joseph Wade praised Gallion as a remarkable officer, colleague and friend. Wade remembered Gallion as an officer of many talents, such as being a church drummer and a barber. The Jackson Police Department is mourning the loss of 39-year-old Corporal Christopher Gallion, Sr., who died after experiencing a medical crisis while on duty. We love him dearly, and his presence will be deeply missed. Though his watch has ended, his legacy of service and sacrifice will live on in the hearts of those who knew him; and WHEREAS, "He was committed to the citizens of Jackson. He loved the citizens of Jackson, but he also loved his family even more," Chief Wade stated. "He's someone who everybody knew," Wade said. "If you were a Jackson police officer, you knew Christopher Gallion. You knew how he acted and how he conducted himself. He was a consummate professional. And that's why we must commend, honor, celebrate and salute our police officers for the work they do every single day, while holding them accountable for the work that they do every single day. Because the loss of a person like Christopher Gallion impacts this whole entire city and this state"; and WHEREAS, we should not pause and remember to thank police officers only in the wake of tragedy, we should do it every day: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby mourn the loss of Jackson Police Department Corporal Christopher Gallion, Sr., and extend to his wife and sons the condolences of the Mississippi Senate on his passing. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to the surviving family of Corporal Christopher Gallion, Sr., forwarded to Jackson Police Chief Joseph Wade and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
