1-MISSISSIPPI LEGISLATURE 2025 Regular Session To: Rules By: Senator(s) Boyd Senate Resolution 124 (As Adopted by Senate) A RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING AND COMMENDING LAFAYETTE HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATE KATIE RIDDLE FOR HER SERVICE AS THE STUDENT REPRESENTATIVE TO THE STATE BOARD OF EDUCATION. WHEREAS, we join members of the State Board of Education in commending the contributions and service of Katie Riddle as the 2024-2025 Student Board Representative to the Mississippi State Board of Education; and WHEREAS, Katie's accomplishments include the following: She graduated from Lafayette High School and has served as the student member on the State Board of Education during the 2024-2025 school year; She currently serves on the State Superintendent's Student Advisory Council and serves as the council's representative on the State Board of Education; She served on the Student Voices Panel at the Mississippi School Boards Association Annual Conference (MSBA) in February 2025 to highlight how student board members have collaborated with adult stakeholders, overcome challenges, and made meaningful contributions to education policy and practices; She was selected to represent the National Student Board Member Association (NSBMA) and discuss the impact of student board members as stakeholders within the education system at the Consortium of State School Boards Association (COSSBA) conference in Atlanta, Georgia, which is being held March 2025; She currently serves on the National Student Board Member Association (NSBMA) Executive Council as the southeast Vice President; She participates in the National Student Board Member Association (NSBMA), which provides ongoing support on policy, board governance and procedures to student board members; She attended the virtual Student Trustee Action Readiness Training (START+) Conference in August 2024, where she met and interacted with student board members from across the nation; and WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize this outstanding Mississippi high school graduate who has brought honor to her school and community and has made a positive contribution to the policies adopted by the State Board of Education: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby recognize and commend Lafayette High School graduate Katie Riddle for her service as the student representative to the State Board of Education, and extend to Katie our best wishes for success in her future career. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Katie Riddle, forwarded to the State Board of Education, and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
