                            MISSISSIPPI LEGISLATURE 2025 Regular Session To: Rules By: Senator(s) Norwood, Frazier, Blount, Horhn Senate Resolution 128 (As Adopted by Senate) A RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING W. H. LANIER JUNIOR SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL IN JACKSON, MISSISSIPPI, ON THE OCCASION OF ITS 100TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION.      WHEREAS, we join the students, parents, faculty, administration and alumni of W. H. Lanier Junior Senior High School in celebrating the school's Centennial Anniversary; and      WHEREAS, W. H. Lanier Junior Senior High School was established in 1925.  The year 2025 marks 100 years of educational support to the community.  The Lanier High School National Alumni Association (LHSNAA) Board of Directors, through its steering committee is planning events that are worthy of the tradition of excellence and opportunity that W. H. Lanier Junior Senior High School has continuously afforded African American students for nearly a century; and      WHEREAS, the vision of the Lanier High School Centennial Steering Committee is to commemorate the 100th Anniversary of W. H. Lanier Junior Senior High School, as the first continually-serving African American high school in central Mississippi, through events that celebrate scholarly achievement and historic recognition.  One example is W. H. Lanier Junior Senior High School students were actively involved in the Civil Rights Movement in the early 1960s.  Students participated in boycotts and demonstrations.  W. H. Lanier Junior Senior High School was one of the first schools to stage walkouts; and      WHEREAS, the Lanier High School Centennial Steering Committee's primary plan will be to provide exciting informational activities of Lanier's 100 year history to its alumni, students and the community; and      WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we join and support the commemoration of these historical events:      NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby recognize the students, faculty, administration and alumni of W. H. Lanier Junior Senior High School in Jackson, Mississippi, on the occasion of its 100th Anniversary Celebration.      BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to the W. H. Lanier Junior Senior High School National Alumni Association Board of Directors, forwarded to the Jackson School Board, and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
