1-MISSISSIPPI LEGISLATURE 2025 Regular Session To: Rules By: Senator(s) Norwood, Frazier, Horhn, Simmons (12th), Thomas Senate Resolution 130 (As Adopted by Senate) A RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING JACKSON STATE UNIVERSITY VICE PRESIDENT AND DIRECTOR OF ATHLETICS ASHLEY ROBINSON AS THE NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF COLLEGIATE DIRECTORS OF ATHLETICS (NACDA) ATHLETIC DIRECTOR OF THE YEAR. WHEREAS, Jackson State University (JSU) Vice President and Director of Athletics Ashley Robinson has been selected as the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) Athletic Director of the Year (ADOY) for 2024-2025; and WHEREAS, this is the second time in three years that Ashley Robinson has earned the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics Athletic Director of the Year Award; and WHEREAS, Robinson, a Murrah High School graduate, was recognized as one of four Athletic Directors at the Football Championship Subdivision or FCS level to win the award. He received a Bachelor's Degree from Mississippi Valley State University and a Master's Degree from the United States Sports Academy. Ashley served as Chair of the SWAC's Athletics Directors Committee, is a past president of the NCAA Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) Athletics Directors Association, and was the first African American in the position from 2020 to 2021. He is a member of Kappa Alpha Psi; and WHEREAS, in 2024, the JSU Tigers started the year with another SWAC Championship from the women's basketball program in what would be Tomekia Reed's final season as Head Coach. Later in the fall, the Tigers won the SWAC Championship and their first- ever win in the Celebration Bowl. The athletics department has had a 3.2 average gpa. Ashley also hired Margaret Richards as the new women's Basketball Head Coach and extended a number of successful coaches within JSU athletics last year. The volleyball team finished second in the SWAC, as well; and WHEREAS, on a national level, Ashley was named to the NCAA Division I Basketball Rules Committee in 2024, which evaluates and decides on rule changes to men's college basketball; and WHEREAS, now in his seventh year at Jackson State University, Vice President/Director of Athletics Ashley Robinson continues to lead Tiger Athletics to new heights. Ashley's motto for Jackson State Athletics is "Building on Tradition, Blazing New Trails," and he has done just that and more in leading the way in the elevation of Tiger Athletics. A four-time National Athletics Director of the Year (2024) HBCU Legends AD of the Year; (2024) Light On College Sports HBCU AD of the Year; (2023 Black Student-Athlete Summit AD of The Year; 2022 Cushman & Wakefield AD of the Year awarded by the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA), Robinson's leadership helped JSU Athletics win the C.D. Henry Award for the best all-around men's sports program in the SWAC in 2022-2023. In May 2024, he was a recipient of the Roscoe Nance Lifetime Achievement Award by the SWAC Alumni Association. He also was named the 2024 YG&E Leader of the Year at Young, Gifted, and Empowered Awards Show in April. Robinson was named a 50 under 50 recipient Mississippi's Top Urban Elite Professionals in January 2025; and WHEREAS, championships marked Ashley's tenure in competition, academic success, and the completion of athletics facilities and renovations; and WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we join the national sports community in honoring a university leader who has brought honor to his university, his community and to the State of Mississippi: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby recognize Jackson State University Vice President and Director of Athletics Ashley Robinson as the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) Athletic Director of the Year, and extend our best wishes to Ashley Robinson and his family for continued success.
