1-MISSISSIPPI LEGISLATURE 2025 Regular Session To: Rules By: Senator(s) Rhodes, Kirby, Harkins, McCaughn Senate Resolution 134 (As Adopted by Senate) A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE EAST RANKIN ACADEMY SHOOTING SPORTS TEAM AND COACH VINCE BYNUM FOR WINNING THEIR SIXTH CONSECUTIVE MISSISSIPPI SCHOLASTIC SHOOTING PROGRAM (MSSP) STATE TITLE. WHEREAS, the Mississippi Scholastic Shooting Program (MSSP) is a team-based, youth development program that uses the shotgun sport of Sporting Clays to instill life skills such as discipline, safety, teamwork, ethics, self-confidence and other life values. The program utilizes these disciplines to teach hunting skills through the safe use of hunting equipment, including firearms, and their relationship to hunting situations. Team members can participate in team and individual events; and WHEREAS, on March 1, 2025, the East Rankin Academy Shooting Sports Team, coached by Vince Bynum, won its sixth consecutive MSSP State Championship Title; and WHEREAS, in a two-day shoot, the MSSP State Championship welcomed the top 150 Sporting Clay, Skeet and Trap shooters between seventh and twelfth grade. The Foundation for Mississippi Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks awarded $12,000.00 in scholarships to the tournament winners. East Rankin Academy's Shooting Sports Team took home the State Title for the 6th consecutive year and brought home $7,500.00 of the scholarships given; and WHEREAS, the following students from East Rankin were recognized for their sharp shooting in the State Tournament: Gabe Nutt: Top Gun South Male High Overall - $1,000.00; Olivia Griffing: Top Gun South Female High Overall - $1,000.00 and State Championship Sporting Clay Female 1st Place - $1,000.00; Evan Mcllwain: State Championship Sporting Clay Female 3rd Place - $500.00; Abram Rowell, Gabe Nutt, and Parker Davis - 1st Place; Evan Mcllwain, Chylen Williams, and Olivia Griffing - 2nd Place; Branton Miller, Peyson Knight, and Seth Peden - 3rd Place; Branton Miller - South Qualifier JV High Overall, State Championship Squads; Grayson Williams, Irby Rawson, and Garreth Barham - 2nd Place; Abe Rowell, Gabe Nutt, and Parker Davis - 3rd Place; and WHEREAS, the 2025 East Rankin Academy Shooting Sports Team Roster: Garreth Barham, Gunner Barham, Dylann Brady, William Burrow, Parker Davis, Olivia Griffing, Payson Knight, Bentley Long, Alex Mcllwain, Evan Mcllwain, Branton Miller, Gabe Nutt, Cole Parkman, Max Peden, Seth Peden, Irby Rawson, Abram Rowell, Sawyer Shanks, Jayla Wedgeworth, Chylen Williams, Grayson Williams and Karson Williams; and Coach Vince Bynum; and WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize these Mississippi sportsmen who have brought honor to their team, their school, their community and to the State of Mississippi: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the East Rankin Academy Shooting Sports Team and Coach Vince Bynum for winning their sixth consecutive Mississippi Scholastic Shooting Program (MSSP) State Title, and extend our best wishes to the Shooting Sports Team for future championships.
