                            MISSISSIPPI LEGISLATURE 2025 Regular Session To: Rules By: Senator(s) Tate Senate Resolution 138 (As Adopted by Senate) A RESOLUTION SALUTING THE GALLANT SERVICE OF WORLD WAR II VETERAN JOHN WESLEY HENRY OF CANTON, MISSISSIPPI, ON THE OCCASION OF HIS 105TH BIRTHDAY.      WHEREAS, we pause to salute the gallant service of World War II Veteran John Wesley (John the Baptist) Henry on the occasion of his 105th Birthday; and      WHEREAS, John Wesley Henry, was born on September 30, 1919, in Madison County, Mississippi, spending his youth hunting and fishing, participating in various sports and activities, and regularly attending church, all of which later served to form his impeccable character and good standing as a valued and productive resident citizen of Madison County; and      WHEREAS, he served his country by enlisting in the United States military in 1942, and after been deployed to Europe to support the war effort in various capacities in World War II, John Henry was honorably discharged in 1945; and      WHEREAS, after his honorable discharge, Mr. Henry returned to the Canton, Mississippi, area where in 1947, he married Catherine Griffin, and to this union were born 12 children, 95 grandchildren, 67 great-grandchildren, and 50 great-great- grandchildren; and      WHEREAS, John Wesley Henry worked diligently and productively, having been employed at Presto Manufacturing, Canton Public Schools, and as an essential service employee of the City of Canton; and      WHEREAS, affectionately called "John the Baptist," Mr. Henry attended Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church, serving as a Deacon, and blessed many listeners through his gift of song, participating as a member of the popular singing group, "The Canton Southernairs," for well over 60 years; and      WHEREAS, notably, John Wesley Henry has reached the age of 105, a rare birthday that should be greatly celebrated by his family, his friends, and all in Madison County who know, love and respect him; and      WHEREAS, we honor John Wesley Henry for his Godly life, his incredible life-story and personal testimony, and his service that brought honor to a grateful nation.  He truly is part of this nation's greatest generation:      NOW, THEREFORE, LIEUTENANT GOVERNOR DELBERT C. HOSEMANN, JR., AS PRESIDENT OF THE SENATE, AND SENATOR JEFF TATE, on behalf of the Mississippi Senate, salute the gallant service of World War II Veteran John Wesley Henry of Canton, Mississippi, on the occasion of his 105th Birthday and extend the best wishes of the Senate to Mr. Henry and his family.      BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to John Wesley Henry, forwarded to Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church and made available to Capitol Press Corps.
