1-MISSISSIPPI LEGISLATURE 2025 Regular Session To: Rules By: Senator(s) Boyd Senate Resolution 139 (As Adopted by Senate) A RESOLUTION COMMENDING NATIONAL AWARD-WINNING OXFORD HIGH SCHOOL TENNIS COACH LOUIS NASH ON THE OCCASION OF HIS RETIREMENT AND SALUTING HIS REMARKABLE VARSITY RECORD. WHEREAS, we join the students, parents and faculty of Oxford High School in honoring Louis Nash, a distinguished tennis coach from Oxford, Mississippi, with a career spanning over four decades; and WHEREAS, his journey in tennis began at the age of six, laying the foundation for a lifelong passion for the sport. Nash began his coaching career in 1982 at R.H. Watkins High School in Laurel, Mississippi, where he served until 1984. He then took on the role of head coach at St. Joseph High School in Greenville from 1986 to 1993. In 2001, Nash was appointed head coach of the Oxford High School (OHS) Tennis Team, a position he has held with distinction since; and WHEREAS, under Coach Nash's leadership, Oxford High School achieved an impressive streak of ten consecutive 5A State Championships from 2008 to 2017. Throughout his tenure, Nash has guided the team to a total of 17 state championships, amassing a remarkable varsity record of 560 wins against 63 losses; and WHEREAS, Nash's exceptional coaching has earned him numerous accolades. He is a two-time recipient of the Mississippi Association of Coaches Coach of the Year Award. In 2019, he was honored as the U.S. Professional Tennis Association Coach of the Year for Mississippi. His contributions to tennis were further recognized with his induction into the Mississippi Tennis Hall of Fame in January 2023; and WHEREAS, in June 2024, Nash received national recognition when he was named the National High School Athletic Coaches Association's National Tennis Coach of the Year during their annual convention in Bismarck, North Dakota; and WHEREAS, Coach Nash is also known across the City of Oxford for his hard-working attitude, determination, and witty comments. Danielle Little is an Assistant Coach for the Oxford High School Tennis Team and has been coaching alongside Nash for five years. "It's like you're always going to be surprised by him, but it's always in a good way." The Oxford High School Tennis Team holds much admiration and respect for their coach, and is reflected in the teams relationship with one another; and WHEREAS, beyond his impressive record and accolades, Coach Nash is celebrated for his dedication, leadership, and the profound impact he has had on his players and the broader tennis community. His enduring commitment continues to inspire both current and aspiring athletes: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend National Award-Wining Oxford High School Tennis Coach Louis Nash on the occasion of his retirement and saluting his remarkable varsity record and extend the best wishes of the Senate to Coach Nash and his family for future success and happiness. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Coach Louis Nash, forwarded to the Principal of Oxford High School, Dr. Dana Bullard, and the Oxford School Board and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
