MISSISSIPPI LEGISLATURE 2025 Regular Session To: Rules By: Senator(s) Boyd, Suber, Whaley Senate Resolution 149 (As Adopted by Senate) A RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE OUTSTANDING PUBLIC SERVICE OF BRENT SMITH AS THE PRESIDENT OF THE MISSISSIPPI INDEPENDENT PHARMACY BOARD AND FOR HIS CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE PHARMACY INDUSTRY. WHEREAS, we join the pharmacy industry in honoring the outstanding public service of Brent Smith in advancing the practice of pharmacy in our state; and WHEREAS, Brent graduated from Greenwood High School in 1969. He attended Ole Miss and graduated from Pharmacy School in 1975. Brent is an avid sports fan and Ole Miss supporter. He is a member of The Vaught Society along with the Alumni Association; and WHEREAS, during high school and college, Brent worked at the original Chancey's Pharmacy in Greenwood, Mississippi, and began managing the Oxford, Mississippi, store when he graduated from Ole Miss. He bought Chancey's Pharmacy in Oxford in May 1980, when he also married his wife, Laura, who was graduating from Pharmacy School that month; and WHEREAS, Brent was instrumental in the development of pharmacy services for Oxford Medical Ministries Clinic, a free clinic for the working uninsured in the Oxford Community. He currently serves as President of the Board of Directors as well as the head of pharmacy services; and WHEREAS, Brent is a member of the Mississippi Independent Pharmacies Association (MIPA) and currently serves as president of the board. He is also the past Vice President of MIPA; and WHEREAS, Brent has always been an innovative and forward-thinking pharmacist who practices pharmacy focusing on his patients and customers. His strong work ethic began from watching his father, the late Bob Smith, who worked for McKesson for many years and selflessly served his customers in the Mississippi Delta area; and WHEREAS, Brent is a loyal member of Oxford-University United Methodist Church, where he served as Lay Leader for over 20 years. He has also served as Chair of Finance and Staff Parish Committees; and WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we pay tribute to Brent Smith as a most public-spirited citizen of Mississippi whose contributions to the practice of pharmacy are a matter of record: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend the outstanding public service of Brent Smith as the President of the Mississippi Independent Pharmacy Board and for his contributions to the pharmacy industry, and extend the best wishes of the Senate for future success. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Brent Smith and his family, forwarded to the Mississippi Independent Pharmacies Association, and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
