                            MISSISSIPPI LEGISLATURE 2025 Regular Session To: Rules By: Senator(s) Tate Senate Resolution 153 (As Adopted by Senate) A RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE OUTSTANDING PUBLIC SERVICE OF LONGTIME RESPECTED CLARKE COUNTY CHIEF DEPUTY SHERIFF BARRY M. WHITE ON THE OCCASION OF HIS RETIREMENT.      WHEREAS, we join the citizens of Quitman, Mississippi, and Clarke County in celebrating the outstanding public service of longtime respected Chief Deputy Sheriff Barry M. White on the occasion of his retirement; and      WHEREAS, Chief Deputy Barry White has been with the Clarke County Sheriff's Office for 31 years, serving in multiple roles in the department, before becoming Chief Deputy; and      WHEREAS, Barry M. White's law enforcement service:      ●  1995 - Sheriff Billy Ray Evans appointed White 911 dispatcher.      ●  2001 - Sheriff Todd Kemp appointed White as Deputy Sheriff assigned to the Quitman School District as the first SRO.      ●  2004 - Sheriff Kemp promoted White to Sergeant, supervising the night shift.      ●  2012 - Sheriff Kemp promoted White as Chief Deputy.      ●  2024 - Sheriff Anthony Chancelor retained White as Chief Deputy.      WHEREAS, Clarke County Sheriff Anthony Chancelor stated that White is more than an officer, he is first a public servant; and      WHEREAS, we can never repay out debt to law enforcement officers and their families, but we must do what we can, with all that we have, to live our lives in a way that pays tribute to their service and their legacy:      NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend the outstanding public service of longtime respected Clarke County Chief Deputy Sheriff Barry M. White on the occasion of his retirement, and we pay tribute and cherish fondly the legacy of this most public-spirited Mississippi law enforcement officer.      BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Chief Deputy Sheriff Barry M. White and his family, forwarded to Sheriff Anthony Chancelor and the Clarke County Board of Supervisors and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
