1-MISSISSIPPI LEGISLATURE 2025 Regular Session To: Rules By: Senator(s) Robinson Senate Resolution 61 (As Adopted by Senate) A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE WEST JONES HIGH SCHOOL SEASTANGS GIRLS SWIM TEAM AND HEAD COACH LYNDIE LYON FOR WINNING THEIR SECOND CONSECUTIVE MHSAA CLASS 2 STATE CHAMPIONSHIP. WHEREAS, we join the West Jones High School students, faculty and parents in recognizing the Seastangs Girls Swim Team and Head Coach Lyndie Lyon for winning their second consecutive MHSAA Class 2 State Championship; and WHEREAS, the Seastangs impressive record includes the following: ● 2024 Pine Belt Conference Champions Undefeated since its establishment in 2021 ● 2024 MHSAA Class II Girl's South State Champions Fourth in school history First back-to-back South State Champions ● 2024 MHSAA Class II Girl's back-to-back State Champions Second in school history ● Eight individual event state medalist ● Three individual/relay event State Champions WHEREAS, the past 12 years under the leadership of Coach Lyndie Lyon the Seastangs have grown to average 40 swimmers and a dominate force in the south and now statewide, finishing in the top ten in the past nine years; and WHEREAS, the 2024 season was made possible by team sponsors, booster club, parents, and the leadership of Superintendent Dr. B.R. Jones, Assistant Superintendent Larry Johnson, Assistant Superintendent Will Parker, current Supervising Principal Dr. Jordan Rogers, Assistant Principal Dr. Kacey Chandler, Assistant Principal Jeremiah Keyes, Assistant Director Corey Reynolds and the late Supervising Principal Cooper Pope; and WHEREAS, 2024 Seastangs Championship Roster is: Madison Brewer; Karson Clark; Kara Darby; Kara Ishee; Matilyn James; Madelyn Johnson, Marlie Mitchell; Ella Page; Kate Pickering, Team Captain; Olivia Pickering; Kate Wildman; Reese Yoder; and Coach Lyndie Lyon; and WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize the outstanding record of this group of student athletes who have brought honor to their school, their community and to the State of Mississippi: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the West Jones High School Seastangs Girls Swim Team and Head Coach Lyndie Lyon for winning their second consecutive MHSAA Class 2 State Championship and extend to the team, coaches, parents, and sponsors our best wishes for continued success. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Seastangs Coach Lyndie Lyon for the team, forwarded to Jones County Board of Education and Principal Dr. Jordan Rogers and made available to Capitol Press Corps.
