                            MISSISSIPPI LEGISLATURE 2025 Regular Session To: Rules By: Senator(s) Harkins, Kirby Senate Resolution 75 (As Adopted by Senate) A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE BRANDON BULLDOG CHEERLEADING TEAM AND HEAD COACH AMBER KING FOR MAKING HISTORY WITH THEIR SIXTH GRAND NCA NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP.      WHEREAS, we join the students, faculty, administration and parents of Brandon High School in honoring the Brandon Cheerleading Team for winning the National Cheerleading Association's National Championship for a record-breaking sixth time; and      WHEREAS, Brandon is the first Cheer Squad in the 75-year history of the NCA competition to win back-to-back Grand National Championships.  The teams also won National Championships in the Advanced Crowd Performance Varsity and Advanced Crowd Performance Junior Varsity/Freshman categories; and      WHEREAS, the team begins preparing for the NCA competition in March.  The routine is choreographed by Will Emmons and Storm Chaffin of Southern Athletics and have only performed publicly four times at the regional and state competitions and twice at the NCA Nationals.  However, the team does not spend their entire year focusing on that one routine.  They also prepare routines for athletic contests, pep rallies and other school events; and      WHEREAS, Brandon's success can be attributed to many things.  The school, unlike many in the area, has its own nine-mat practice facility equipped with a 72-inch screen television, wi-fi and a state-of-the-art sound system.  The girls are also no strangers to competitive cheer.  Almost all of them are members of an All-Star Cheerleading Team.  The squad's success prompted cheer and dance powerhouse Varsity Spirit to feature them in a documentary on Varsity TV.  The show, which has followed the team since the fall of 2020, begins at tryouts and follows the ladies through two seasons of preparations and competitions.  It is the most watched series that Varsity TV has ever produced; and      WHEREAS, its title, Brandon Over Everything (BOE), is the cheer team's motto and mission.  The squad has become well-known for their amazing ability to cheer for others, but their most impactful ability is the way they rally for each other.  It is that love for the girl beside them which Coach King says makes the team special; and      WHEREAS, the 2024-2025 Brandon High School Bulldog Cheerleading NCA Grand Championship Team Roster:  Leksi Attkinson, Fran Bartling, Abigail Battle, Madison Black, Kinsley Bledsoe, Bree Bowling, Blakely Cowart, Summer Cumberland, Autumn Curtis, Kynsie Densford, Hayden Ely, Kate Gibson, Taylor Green, Abigail Hall, Aliza Hensley, Chloe Hickman, Madison Hodges, Addie Hunt, Claire Huston, Emily Kate Kittrell, Khloe McGowan, Shaleigh McLendon, Chandler Puckett, Jolie Register, Kenzie Robison, Sophie Sharp, Madye Stegall, Cambre Turman and Georgia Weems; and Head Coach Amber King; and      WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize this group of student athletes who have brought high honor to their school, their community and to the State of Mississippi:      NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Brandon Bulldog Cheerleading Team and Head Coach Amber King for making history with their sixth Grand NCA National Championship, and extend to the team, coaches, administration, parents and sponsors our best wishes for future success.      BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Coach Amber King for the team, forwarded to Brandon High School Principal Dr. Bryan Marshall and the Rankin County Board of Education, and be made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
