WHEREAS, Biggersville High School Lady Lions Girls Basketball Team claimed the MHSAA Class 1A Title in a 54-47 win over Thrasher on February 28, 2025. It is the Lady Lions' first state title since 2022 and their second overall; and WHEREAS, Sadiya Hill led Biggersville (28-5) with 24 points and Jaylee Stafford with 19; and WHEREAS, when the final horn sounded, the basketball court became a sea of emotion, tears flowing seemingly everywhere, tears of joy, tears of despair. As much as the outcome meant, one way or the other to so many people, it meant so much to the Littles of Biggersville; and WHEREAS, Cliff Little is the Biggersville Head Coach, and Jana Little, his wife, is an assistant coach. Lainey Jackson Little, their daughter, is a junior guard on the team. Eighteen years ago, Cliff and Jan were a young married couple teaching at East Webster in Maben. Cliff was an assistant basketball coach, Jana the team's scorekeeper; and WHEREAS, 15-year-old Sadiya Hill scored 24 points to lead the Lions, while Jaylee Stafford scored 19 and pulled down 11 rebounds despite playing much of the fourth quarter with four fouls. The gifted Hill is just a sophomore and her talented older sister, K'yana Hill is a junior, so there is a good chance Biggersville will be back again next year. With so much talent, there is no telling how many championships the 46-year-old Cliff Little will win before he is done. This makes seven state championships, five boys, two girls in all for Little; and WHEREAS, the 2024-2025 Biggersvlle Lady Lions Girls Basketball Roster: Sadiya Hill, Lainey Jackson Little, Xzandria Neal, Annah Rhodes, Hailye Gaines, K'yana Hill, Jaylee Stafford, Katlyn Russell, Giana Wicks, Kamdyn Taylor, Carlisia Patterson, McKinsey Coleman, Head Coach Cliff Little, Assistant Coaches, Tracy Stafford and Jana Little; and WHEREAS, there is something special about growing up in a small town like Biggersville. The traditions, the bond, the community, create a pretty amazing high school basketball team like the Lady Lions. Small towns across America produce some of the best high school basketball being played anywhere, regardless of population size, and it is with great pride that we recognize this group of student athletes who have brought honor to their school, their community and to the State of Mississippi: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Biggersville High School Lady Lions Girls Basketball Team and Coach Cliff Little for winning their second overall Class 1A State Title and extend to the team, coaches, parents and sponsors our best wishes for future championships. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Coach Cliff Little, forwarded to Biggersville Principal Pete Seago and the Alcorn County Board of Education and made available to the Capitol Press Corps. |
