1514 AN ACT TO PROHIBIT WAKE SURFING UNDER CERTAIN CIRCUMSTANCES ON THE 2
1615 WATERS OF LAKE GLENVILLE IN JACKSON COUNTY . 3
1716 The General Assembly of North Carolina enacts: 4
1817 SECTION 1.(a) Definition. – For purposes of this section, wake surfing means the 5
1918 operation of a motorboat, as defined in G.S. 75A-2, to which weight has been added in the stern 6
2019 via water-filled tanks or other ballasts for the purpose of creating an artificially enlarged wake 7
2120 that is or is intended to be surfed by another person towed behind the motorboat. 8
2221 SECTION 1.(b) Prohibition. – No person may engage in wake surfing within 500 9
2322 feet of the shoreline or any structure, moored vessel, kayak, canoe, paddleboard, or swimmer. 10
2423 SECTION 2. Violation. – A violation of this act is a Class 1 misdemeanor punishable 11
2524 by a fine of not less than one hundred dollars ($100.00) in addition to any other punishment 12
2625 prescribed for that offense. 13
2726 SECTION 3. Enforcement. – This act is enforceable by law enforcement officers of 14
2827 the Wildlife Resources Commission, by sheriffs and deputy sheriffs, and by other peace officers 15
2928 with general subject matter jurisdiction. 16
3029 SECTION 4. Applicability. – This act applies only to the waters of Lake Glenville 17
3130 in Jackson County. 18
3231 SECTION 5. Effective Date. – This act becomes effective October 1, 2025, and 19
3332 applies to offenses committed on or after that date. 20
