Referred to: State and Local Government, if favorable, Rules, Calendar, and Operations of the House April 2, 2025 *H654 -v-1* A BILL TO BE ENTITLED 1 AN ACT DESIGNATING A STATEWIDE GIRL SCOUTS WEEK TO RECOGNIZE THE 2 IMPORTANCE AND CONTR IBUTIONS OF THE GIRL SCOUTS AND CELEBRAT E 3 THE GIRL SCOUT GOLD AWARD RECIPIENTS. 4 Whereas, since its founding on March 12, 1912, Girl Scouts of the USA has 5 empowered millions of girls and young women by fostering leadership, confidence, and character 6 through community service and personal development; and 7 Whereas, the Girl Scout Gold Award, established in 1916, represents the highest 8 achievement in Girl Scouting, recognizing Senior and Ambassador Girl Scouts who demonstrate 9 extraordinary leadership through sustainable and measurable Take Action projects that address 10 pressing community issues; and 11 Whereas, Gold Award Girl Scouts in North Carolina have tackled critical challenges 12 such as environmental sustainability, educational disparities, and public health awareness, 13 creating lasting impacts within their communities; and 14 Whereas, the dedication and accomplishments of these young leaders inspire others 15 to contribute positively to society and exemplify the core values of courage, confidence, and 16 character; and 17 Whereas, Girl Scouts Week provides an opportunity to celebrate the organization's 18 rich history and the remarkable achievements of its members, especially those who have earned 19 the prestigious Gold Award; Now, therefore, 20 The General Assembly of North Carolina enacts: 21 SECTION 1. Chapter 103 of the General Statutes is amended by adding a new 22 section to read: 23 "ยง 103-19. Girl Scouts Week. 24 The Sunday through Saturday week of each year containing the twelfth day of March is 25 designated as Girl Scouts Week in North Carolina." 26 SECTION 2. This act is effective when it becomes law. 27
