8+A concurrent resolution urging Congress to establish federal protections for the wild horse herd
9+at Theodore Roosevelt National Park.
10+WHEREAS, Theodore Roosevelt was an American statesman, conservationist, historian,
11+and writer, who served as the twenty-sixth President of the United States; and
12+WHEREAS, in 1978, Theodore Roosevelt National Park became the only national park
13+named directly for a single person; and
14+WHEREAS, the wild horse herd, which was present during Theodore Roosevelt's era and
15+contributes to the historical setting and the culture of North Dakota, should be preserved as part
16+of our state's history; and
17+WHEREAS, the wild horses of Theodore Roosevelt National Park bring tourism and
18+economic benefits to the state; and
19+WHEREAS, there are significant concerns regarding the management of the wild horse
20+herd by Theodore Roosevelt National Park and the long-term health and preservation of the
21+herd;
22+NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF NORTH DAKOTA, THE
23+HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN:
24+That the Sixty-ninth Legislative Assembly urges Congress to enact legislation establishing
25+federal protections for the wild horse herd of Theodore Roosevelt National Park to ensure the
26+long-term health and preservation of the herd for generations to come; and
27+BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED , that the Secretary of State forward copies of this resolution
28+to the Secretary of the Interior, the Director of the National Park Service, the Superintendent of
29+the Theodore Roosevelt National Park, the House Subcommittee on Public Lands and
30+Environmental Regulation, the Senate Subcommittee on National Parks, and to each member
31+of the North Dakota Congressional Delegation.
