57 A concurrent resolution to amend and reenact section 1 of article XV of the Constitution of North
68 Dakota, relating to term limits for members of the legislative assembly; to repeal section 4 of
79 article XV of the Constitution of North Dakota, relating to prohibiting the legislative assembly

1012 STATEMENT OF INTENT
11-This measure provides an individual may not serve more than four complete terms in the legislative
12-assembly. The measure also repeals the provision prohibiting the legislative assembly from proposing
13-constitutional amendments relating to term limits.
14-BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF NORTH DAKOTA, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES
15-CONCURRING THEREIN:

14+legislative assembly. The measure also repeals the provision prohibiting the legislative
15+assembly from proposing constitutional amendments relating to term limits.
16+BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF NORTH DAKOTA, THE HOUSE OF
17+REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN:
1618 That the following proposed amendment to section 1 of article XV and repeal of section 4 of
17-article XV of the Constitution of North Dakota are agreed to and must be submitted to the qualified
18-electors of North Dakota at the general election to be held in November of 2026, in accordance with
19-section 16 of article IV of the Constitution of North Dakota.
20-SECTION 1. AMENDMENT. Section 1 of article XV of the Constitution of North Dakota is amended
21-and reenacted as follows:

21+accordance with section 16 of article IV of the Constitution of North Dakota.
22+SECTION 1. AMENDMENT. Section 1 of article XV of the Constitution of North Dakota is
23+amended and reenacted as follows:
2224 Section 1. An individual shallmay not serve more than four complete four-year terms as a
23-member of the house of representatives for a cumulative period of time amounting to more than eight
24-years. An individual shall not serve as a member of the senate for a cumulative period of time
25-amounting to more than eight yearslegislative assembly. An individual shall not be eligible to serve a full
26-or remaining termindividual's service as a member of the house of representatives or the senate if
27-serving the full or remaininglegislative assembly during a term would cause the individual to serve for a
28-cumulative period of time amounting to more than eight years in that respective housethat is less than
29-four years does not count toward the term limit for a member of the house of representatives or the
30-senate under this section.
31-SECTION 2. REPEAL. Section 4 of article XV of the Constitution of North Dakota is repealed.
32-SECTION 3. APPLICATION. If approved by the electors, this measure will apply to individuals
