STATEMENT TO ASSEMBLY, No. 2886 with Assembly Floor Amendments (Proposed by Assemblyman MOEN) ADOPTED: MARCH 24, 2022 Assembly Bill No. 2886 establishes employment protections for paid first responders who are diagnosed with certain cases of work- related post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). These Assembly amendments expand the definition of “first responder” to include paid emergency medical technicians, paid paramedics, and paid 9-1-1 first responder dispatchers in the definition of “first responder.” As introduced, the bill limited the definition to law enforcement officers, paid firefighters, and paid members of duly incorporated first aid, emergency, ambulance, or rescue squad associations. Additionally, the amendments make technical corrections.
