5050 RELATING TO SCHOOL; PROTECTING THE CULTURAL EXPRESSION OF
5151 STUDENTS AT GRADUATION AND PROMOTION CEREMONIES.
5252 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:
5353 SECTION 1. A new section of the Public School Code is
5454 enacted to read:
5555 "[NEW MATERIAL] CULTURAL PROTECTIONS AT GRADUATION AND
5656 PROMOTION CEREMONIES.--
5757 A. A public school, private school or charter
5858 school shall not prohibit a student who is enrolled, or
5959 eligible for enrollment, in a federally recognized Indian
6060 nation, tribe or pueblo from wearing objects of cultural
6161 significance at a graduation or promotion ceremony.
6262 B. For the purposes of this section, "objects of
6363 cultural significance" means items that hold special meaning
