5050 RELATING TO TEACHER PREPARATION; INCREASING STIPENDS FOR
5151 TEACHING RESIDENTS; PROVIDING HEALTH INSURANCE DURING
5252 RESIDENCY; PROVIDING ADDITIONAL FUNDING FOR PARTICIPATING
5353 PUBLIC POST-SECONDARY EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTIONS AND TRIBAL
5454 COLLEGES.
5555 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:
5656 SECTION 1. Section 22-10B-4 NMSA 1978 (being Laws 2020,
5757 Chapter 25, Section 4, as amended) is amended to read:
5858 "22-10B-4. TEACHER RESIDENCY PROGRAM COMPONENTS.--A
5959 teacher residency program established pursuant to the Teacher
6060 Residency Act shall include:
6161 A. competitive admission requirements with multiple

102102 with ongoing evidence-based training in coaching and mentoring

104104 responsibility;
105105 F. grouping teaching residents in cohorts to
106106 facilitate professional collaboration among residents and
107107 placing teaching residents in teaching schools or professional
108108 development programs that are organized to support a high-
109109 quality teacher learning experience in a supportive work
110110 environment;
111111 G. measures of appropriate progress through the
112112 program;
113113 H. a stipend of no less than [thirty-five thousand
114114 dollars ($35,000) per year ] eighty percent of the minimum
115115 salary for level 1 teachers for the school year for teaching

145145 resident's health insurance through the public school insurance

147147 I. a stipend of no less than two thousand dollars
148148 ($2,000) per year for level two and level three teachers
149149 participating in the program;
150150 J. a stipend of no less than two thousand dollars
151151 ($2,000) per year for principals or head administrators at the
152152 partner school district or charter school;
153153 K. funding of no less than fifty thousand dollars
154154 ($50,000) per year for teacher residency program coordinators
155155 at each department-approved New Mexico teacher residency
156156 program;
157157 L. four thousand dollars ($4,000) for each faculty
158158 person at a participating public post-secondary educational
159159 institution or tribal college who provides co-teaching training
160160 to residents and public school mentors;
161161 M. five hundred dollars ($500) for each
162162 participating public post-secondary educational institution or
163163 tribal college for each student who is a teaching resident to
164164 offset institutional costs associated with supervision of
165165 teaching residents;

167167 residents to serve a minimum of three years at schools in the
168168 sponsoring school district;
