37	37	RAISING AWARENESS OF THE CONTRIBUTION OF CERTIFIED WATER AND
38	38	WASTEWATER OPERATORS TO PUBLIC HEALTH AND URGING THE
39	39	LEGISLATURE TO ELEVATE CERTIFIED WATER AND WASTEWATER OPERATORS
40	40	TO ESSENTIAL WORKERS AND FUND A STUDY ON PROVIDING CERTIFIED
41	41	WATER AND WASTEWATER OPERATORS WITH STATE HEALTH INSURANCE AND
42	42	RETIREMENT BENEFITS.
43	43	WHEREAS, certified water and wastewater operators provide
44	44	essential services in the state by helping maintain safe and
45	45	reliable sources of drinking water and treating wastewater for
46	46	release back into the environment; and
47	47	WHEREAS, drinking water contains many substances that can
48	48	be harmful to human health if not treated properly, including
49	49	germs, per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances, lead and arsenic;

78	78	WHEREAS, the treatment of wastewater is important in
79	79	maintaining the health of rivers, lakes and other bodies of
80	80	water, protecting aquatic life and for reuse for agriculture;
81	81	and
82	82	WHEREAS, clean water is critical for a community's
83	83	recreational activities and economic development; and
84	84	WHEREAS, certified water and wastewater operators conduct
85	85	operations and provide services that are essential to the
86	86	continued operation of critical infrastructure;
87	87	NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE
88	88	STATE OF NEW MEXICO that the legislature support legislation to
89	89	elevate certified water and wastewater operators to essential
90	90	workers and fund a study to add certified water and wastewater
91	91	operators to state health insurance and retirement benefit
92	92	programs; and
93	93	BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this memorial be
94	94	transmitted to the members of the legislature.
