A JOINT RESOLUTION
PROPOSING TO AMEND ARTICLE 2, SECTION 4 OF THE CONSTITUTION OF
NEW MEXICO TO PROHIBIT SLAVERY AND INDENTURED SERVITUDE.
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:
SECTION 1. It is proposed to amend Article 2, Section 4
of the constitution of New Mexico to read:
"All persons are born equally free and have certain
natural, inherent and inalienable rights; among which are the
rights of enjoying and defending life and liberty; of
acquiring, possessing and protecting property; and of seeking
and obtaining safety and happiness.  Slavery and involuntary
servitude in any form are prohibited. "
SECTION 2.  The amendment proposed by this resolution
shall be submitted to the people for their approval or
rejection at the next general election or at any special
