2937 ACKNOWLEDGING THE SIGNIFICANCE OF THE HISPANIC EDUCATION ACT
3038 AND THE BILINGUAL MULTICULTURAL EDUCATION ACT AND REQUESTING
31-THE LEGISLATIVE EDUCATION STUDY COMMITTEE TO STUDY HISPANIC
32-AND BILINGUAL EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS.
33-WHEREAS, Hispanic students constitute the majority of
34-the student population in New Mexico and face achievement
35-gaps in academic performance, graduation rates and college
36-and career readiness; and
37-WHEREAS, New Mexico has a rich bilingual and
38-multicultural heritage, with a significant number of Hispanic
39-students who are English learners requiring specialized
40-instructional support and who may benefit from multicultural
41-education and culturally responsive pedagogy; and
39+THE LEGISLATIVE EDUCATION STUDY COMMITTEE TO STUDY HISPANIC AND
40+BILINGUAL EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS.

48-WHEREAS, the Hispanic Education Act aims to improve
49-educational outcomes and expand educational opportunities for
50-Hispanic students by fostering collaboration among public

141150 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF

145154 Education Act and request the legislative education study
146155 committee to study the implementation of those acts and the
147-current state of Hispanic education and bilingual programs,
148-including evaluating and identifying successful initiatives
149-related to students' academic performance and the funding
150-structures for Hispanic and bilingual education; and
151-BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the legislative education
152-study committee be requested to study Hispanic and bilingual
