33	33	DECLARING FEBRUARY 11, 2025 "LOWRIDER DAY" IN THE SENATE AND
34	34	REQUESTING THAT THE LEGISLATURE CONSIDER LEGISLATION ADOPTING
35	35	THE LOWRIDER AS THE NEW MEXICO OFFICIAL STATE CAR.
36	36	WHEREAS, lowriding is deeply ingrained in the culture of
37	37	the American southwest and woven into the cultural fabric and
38	38	heritage of New Mexico; and
39	39	WHEREAS, lowriding serves as a catalyst for embracing and
40	40	valuing the cultural diversity and history of New Mexico; and
41	41	WHEREAS, lowriders deserve recognition as a unique mode of
42	42	transportation as well as beautiful works of art and self-
43	43	expression; and
44	44	WHEREAS, lowriders are recognized as part of Hispanic and
45	45	Chicano cultural traditions and cultural heirlooms of long
46	46	lines of Hispanic and Chicano families; and

75	75	route 66, including the cities of Albuquerque, Espanola and
76	76	Santa Fe, have a rich lowrider history, and the city of
77	77	Espanola is nationally recognized as the lowrider capital of
78	78	the world; and
79	79	WHEREAS, lowriders have served the city of Albuquerque as
80	80	a bridge between the local lowrider community and youth, law
81	81	enforcement and the community at large; and
82	82	WHEREAS, the lowrider is a symbol of and sets an example
83	83	for slow, safe and responsible driving; and
84	84	WHEREAS, the lowrider can serve New Mexico as a literal
85	85	and figurative vehicle for positive change; and
86	86	WHEREAS, the cities of Albuquerque and Espanola have
87	87	passed legislative measures to embrace lowrider culture and
88	88	activate economic development opportunities that would have
89	89	otherwise not been fully realized; and
90	90	WHEREAS, New Mexico has also embraced lowrider culture for
91	91	its contribution to the state's tourism industry; and
92	92	WHEREAS, New Mexico does not have an official car; and
93	93	WHEREAS, the Albuquerque city council passed a legislative
94	94	measure urging that the state legislature consider the
95	95	designation of the lowrider as New Mexico's official state car;
96	96	and
97	97	WHEREAS, legislation has been introduced that would
98	98	designate the lowrider as New Mexico's official state car;

127	127	NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE
128	128	OF NEW MEXICO that February 11, 2025 be declared "Lowrider Day"
129	129	in the senate in recognition of the lowrider's cultural
130	130	significance and importance to New Mexico culture and
131	131	tradition; and
132	132	BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that legislation be considered for
133	133	the designation of the lowrider as New Mexico's official state
134	134	car; and
135	135	BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this memorial be
136	136	transmitted to the governor, the secretary of tourism and the
137	137	members of the Albuquerque, Espanola and Santa Fe city
138	138	councils.
