AN ACT relating to geographic names; adding a voting member to 
the Nevada State Board on Geographic Names; providing 
that members of the Nevada State Board on Geographic 
Names are entitled to receive the per diem allowance and 
travel expenses provided for state officers and employees 
generally; and providing other matters properly relating 
thereto. 
Legislative Counsel’s Digest: 
 Existing law creates the Nevada State Board on Geographic Names to 1 
coordinate and approve geographic names within the State for official 2 
recommendation to the United States Board on Geographic Names. (NRS 327.110) 3 
The Nevada State Board on Geographic Names consists of 12 voting members who 4 
serve without compensation, travel expenses or subsistence allowances except as 5 
may be provided by the members’ respective agencies and organizations. (NRS 6 
327.120, 327.130) Section 1 of this bill adds a representative of the United States 7 
Fish and Wildlife Service to the membership of the Nevada State Board on 8 
Geographic Names. Section 1.5 of this bill provides that members of the Nevada 9 
State Board on Geographic Names are entitled to receive the per diem allowance 10 
and travel expenses as provided for state officers and employees generally.  11

THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, REPRESENTED IN 
SENATE AND ASSEMBLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: 
 
 Section 1.  NRS 327.120 is hereby amended to read as follows: 1 
 327.120 The Board consists of: 2 
 1.  [Twelve] Thirteen voting members, which include one 3 
representative of each of the following agencies or organizations: 4 
 (a) Bureau of Mines and Geology of the State of Nevada. 5 
 (b) Faculty of the University of Nevada, Reno. 6 
 (c) Faculty of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. 7 
 (d) Division of State Library, Archives and Public Records of 8 
the Department of Administration. 9 
 (e) Department of Transportation of the State. 10 
 (f) State Department of Conservation and Natural Resources. 11 
 (g) Nevada Historical Society. 12 
 (h) Nevada Indian Commission. 13 
 (i) United States Bureau of Land Management. 14 
 (j) United States Fish and Wildlife Service.  15 
 (k) United States Forest Service. 16 
 [(k)] (l) United States National Park Service. 17 
 [(l)] (m) Inter-Tribal Council of Nevada, Inc., or its successor 18 
organization. 19 
 Each agency or organization shall designate a representative and 20 
one alternative representative for this purpose. 21 
 2.  An Executive Secretary who is a nonvoting member of the 22 
Board. The voting members of the Board shall select the Executive 23 
Secretary. 24 
 Sec. 1.5.  NRS 327.130 is hereby amended to read as follows: 25 
 327.130 1.  The Board shall designate from among its voting 26 
members a Chair and a Vice Chair. The Vice Chair presides in the 27 
absence of the Chair. 28 
 2.  The Board shall adopt rules for its own management. 29 
 3.  A majority of the voting members of the Board constitutes a 30 
quorum for the transaction of business. 31 
 4.  The Board shall meet at such times and places as are 32 
specified by the Chair, but may not hold more than four meetings in 33 
any 1 year. 34 
 5.  Members of the Board shall serve without compensation [,] 35 
but are entitled to receive the per diem allowance and travel 36 
expenses [or subsistence allowances except as they may be] 37 
provided [by the members’ respective agencies and organizations.] 38 
for state officers and employees generally. 39 
 Sec. 2.  This act becomes effective on July 1, 2023. 40
