13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the Legislature of the State of Nevada |
---|
14 | 14 | | has established a Senate Hall of Fame whose members are selected |
---|
15 | 15 | | by leadership from those past Senators who have served with |
---|
16 | 16 | | distinction and who have made exemplary contributions to the State |
---|
17 | 17 | | of Nevada; and |
---|
18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, Richard Hudson Bryan was born in Washington, |
---|
19 | 19 | | D.C. but moved at a very young age with his family to Las Vegas, |
---|
20 | 20 | | where he graduated from Las Vegas High School; and |
---|
21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, Richard received his bachelor of arts degree from the |
---|
22 | 22 | | University of Nevada, Reno, and his bachelor of laws degree from |
---|
23 | 23 | | the University of California, Hastings College of the Law; and |
---|
24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, Richard served as a Second Lieutenant in the United |
---|
25 | 25 | | States Army, and became a Captain in the Army Reserve, where he |
---|
26 | 26 | | served in the Judge Advocate General Corps; and |
---|
27 | 27 | | WHEREAS, In 1966, Richard was appointed to the position of |
---|
28 | 28 | | Clark County Public Defender, the youngest Public Defender in the |
---|
29 | 29 | | nation at the time; and |
---|
30 | 30 | | WHEREAS, In 1968, Richard was elected to the Nevada |
---|
31 | 31 | | Assembly and in 1972, he was elected to the Nevada Senate, serving |
---|
32 | 32 | | 4 years in the Assembly and 6 years in the Senate; and |
---|
33 | 33 | | WHEREAS, During his 10 years as a Legislator, Richard served |
---|
34 | 34 | | as the Chair of the Senate Education and Senate Taxation |
---|
35 | 35 | | Committees, and helped pass the Corporate Gaming Act, which |
---|
36 | 36 | | expanded the gaming industry in this State; and |
---|
37 | 37 | | WHEREAS, After completing his legislative service in 1978, |
---|
38 | 38 | | Richard was elected Nevada Attorney General, where he worked to |
---|
39 | 39 | | remove organized crime from Nevada’s gaming industry; and |
---|
40 | 40 | | WHEREAS, In 1982, Richard was elected as the 25th Governor |
---|
41 | 41 | | of Nevada, where he prioritized diversifying Nevada’s economy and |
---|
42 | 42 | | attracting new businesses to the State, and served as President of the |
---|
43 | 43 | | Council of State Governments; and |
---|
44 | 44 | | WHEREAS, Richard was elected as a United States Senator |
---|
45 | 45 | | where he served until 2001, and during his tenure he passed the |
---|

52 | 52 | | WHEREAS, Richard will be remembered for his resounding |

53 | 53 | | integrity, support of Nevada’s gaming industry, and longstanding |
---|
54 | 54 | | friendship with former Senator Harry Reid; now, therefore, be it |
---|
55 | 55 | | RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, That, for |
---|
56 | 56 | | his many years of devoted service to the State of Nevada as a |
---|
57 | 57 | | member of both the Nevada Senate and Assembly, as the Nevada |
---|
58 | 58 | | Attorney General, the Governor of Nevada, and as a member of the |
---|
59 | 59 | | United States Senate, Richard Hudson Bryan is hereby inducted into |
---|
60 | 60 | | the Senate Hall of Fame of the Legislature of the State of Nevada; |
