1111 SENATE RESOLUTION—Inducting Richard Bryan into the Senate
1212 Hall of Fame.
1313 WHEREAS, The Senate of the Legislature of the State of Nevada
1414 has established a Senate Hall of Fame whose members are selected
1515 by leadership from those past Senators who have served with
1616 distinction and who have made exemplary contributions to the State
1717 of Nevada; and
1818 WHEREAS, Richard Hudson Bryan was born in Washington,
1919 D.C. but moved at a very young age with his family to Las Vegas,
2020 where he graduated from Las Vegas High School; and
2121 WHEREAS, Richard received his bachelor of arts degree from the
2222 University of Nevada, Reno, and his bachelor of laws degree from
2323 the University of California, Hastings College of the Law; and
2424 WHEREAS, Richard served as a Second Lieutenant in the United
2525 States Army, and became a Captain in the Army Reserve, where he
2626 served in the Judge Advocate General Corps; and
2727 WHEREAS, In 1966, Richard was appointed to the position of
2828 Clark County Public Defender, the youngest Public Defender in the
2929 nation at the time; and
3030 WHEREAS, In 1968, Richard was elected to the Nevada
3131 Assembly and in 1972, he was elected to the Nevada Senate, serving
3232 4 years in the Assembly and 6 years in the Senate; and
3333 WHEREAS, During his 10 years as a Legislator, Richard served
3434 as the Chair of the Senate Education and Senate Taxation
3535 Committees, and helped pass the Corporate Gaming Act, which
3636 expanded the gaming industry in this State; and
3737 WHEREAS, After completing his legislative service in 1978,
3838 Richard was elected Nevada Attorney General, where he worked to
3939 remove organized crime from Nevada’s gaming industry; and
4040 WHEREAS, In 1982, Richard was elected as the 25th Governor
4141 of Nevada, where he prioritized diversifying Nevada’s economy and
4242 attracting new businesses to the State, and served as President of the
4343 Council of State Governments; and
4444 WHEREAS, Richard was elected as a United States Senator
4545 where he served until 2001, and during his tenure he passed the

5050 Southern Nevada Public Lands Management Act and lead the fight
5151 against the Yucca Mountain nuclear waste dump; and
5252 WHEREAS, Richard will be remembered for his resounding
5353 integrity, support of Nevada’s gaming industry, and longstanding
5454 friendship with former Senator Harry Reid; now, therefore, be it
5555 RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, That, for
5656 his many years of devoted service to the State of Nevada as a
5757 member of both the Nevada Senate and Assembly, as the Nevada
5858 Attorney General, the Governor of Nevada, and as a member of the
5959 United States Senate, Richard Hudson Bryan is hereby inducted into
6060 the Senate Hall of Fame of the Legislature of the State of Nevada;
6161 and be it further
6262 RESOLVED, That this resolution becomes effective upon
6363 adoption.
