SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION—Recognizing the “Fruit Loop” as a historical LGBTQ+ landmark in Clark County, Nevada. WHEREAS, The State of Nevada consists of various diverse 1 communities, including, without limitation, the LGBTQ+ 2 community, which have made significant cultural, civic, economic 3 and political contributions to the State; and 4 WHEREAS, The area where East Naples Drive meets South 5 Paradise Road and South University Center Drive in Las Vegas, 6 Nevada, is commonly known as the “Fruit Loop;” and 7 WHEREAS, Since the 1950s, numerous LGBTQ+ businesses, 8 entertainment venues and gathering spaces located in the Fruit Loop 9 have served the LGBTQ+ community as a culturally and historically 10 significant hub for activism, community-building, celebrations, 11 pride events and fundraisers; and 12 WHEREAS, The Fruit Loop has provided a safe space for the 13 LGBTQ+ community for self-expression, socialization and 14 advocacy and has contributed to the diverse social, cultural and 15 economic vitality of Las Vegas, Nevada, by fostering inclusivity, 16 acceptance, understanding and respect; and 17 WHEREAS, Recognizing historical LGBTQ+ landmarks is 18 essential to understanding the struggles, resilience and triumphs of 19 the LGBTQ+ community; now, therefore, be it 20 – 2 – - *SCR2_R1* RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, THE 1 ASSEMBLY CONCURRING, That the members of the 83rd Session of 2 the Nevada Legislature hereby recognize the Fruit Loop as a 3 historical LGBTQ+ landmark; and be it further 4 RESOLVED, That the recognition of the Fruit Loop as a historical 5 LGBTQ+ landmark will encourage continued support for the 6 preservation of its legacy and the promotion of LGBTQ+ history in 7 Nevada; and be it further 8 RESOLVED, That the members of the 83rd Session of the Nevada 9 Legislature hereby urge the Director of the Department of 10 Transportation to install directional signs to direct tourists and 11 members of the public to the location of the Fruit Loop; and be it 12 further 13 RESOLVED, That the members of the 83rd Session of the Nevada 14 Legislature hereby urge the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors 15 Authority and the Division of Tourism of the Department of 16 Tourism and Cultural Affairs to produce materials concerning the 17 cultural and historical significance of the Fruit Loop for the 18 inclusion on maps and other marketing materials; and be it further 19 RESOLVED, That the Secretary of the Senate transmit a copy of 20 this resolution to the Board of County Commissioners of Clark 21 County, Nevada, the Las Vegas City Council, the Director of the 22 Department of Transportation, the Las Vegas Convention and 23 Visitors Authority, the Division of Tourism of the Department of 24 Tourism and Cultural Affairs and the LGBTQ+ Center of Southern 25 Nevada; and be it further 26 RESOLVED, That this resolution becomes effective upon 27 adoption. 28 H
