Relates to annual teacher and principal evaluations; provides that in the event that a new evaluation system has not been adopted in accordance with the recommendations of the committee of experts as set forth in subdivision sixteen of section 3012-d of the education law by September 1, 2027, the date for compliance with the provisions of subpart E of part EE of chapter 56 of the laws of 2015, shall be suspended until such time that a new evaluation system is enacted.
Relates to the powers and duties of the chancellor of education in the city of New York; relates to the reorganization of the New York city school construction authority, board of education and community boards.
Requires certain public schools in any city with a population over one million to offer Halal food options during lunch to students with dietary restrictions free of charge.
Grants a waiver in the amount of $52,000 to Adirondack Helping Hands for services rendered during the 2016--2017 school year; provides such waiver shall be allocated to costs associated with special class in an integrated setting spending for the 2016--2017 school year.
Creates a city-wide council for district seventy-five to advise and comment on educational or instructional policies involving district seventy-five services.
Provides for a gun violence prevention program in the public schools; provides that the program is to be developed by the department of education in conjunction with other state agencies and educational organizations and is to be made available to schools for use in pre-kindergarten through twelfth grade; provides for a report to the governor and the legislature on the program; enacts the "gun violence prevention act".
Requires the New York city department of education to study and report on students who would likely pass the Specialized High Schools Admissions Test and be admitted to a specialized high school; provides that such report shall be issued to the governor, temporary president of the senate and speaker of the assembly no later than February 28, 2024.
Requires the regents exam to be waived for any student who scores a 3, 4 or 5 on the advanced placement examination in the subject of the regents exam.
