Provides that each county, city, town or village may adopt a local law, and each school district may adopt a resolution, that provides qualified applicants with a supplemental exemption from taxation to the extent of five hundred dollars.
Establishes the hire a vet grant program; provides grants to municipalities where a veteran is hired and employed, for not less than twelve continuous and uninterrupted months in a full-time or part-time position.
Extends eligibility for real property tax exemptions to veterans who served on a submarine or on classified missions during a period of war as documented by military service records.
Provides that individuals requesting and obtaining a veteran notation on such individual's driver's license or non-driver identification card shall be advised that the department of veterans' services and local veterans' service agencies provide assistance to veterans regarding benefits under federal and state law.
Directs that moneys in the veterans' home services fund shall be payable on vouchers certified by the commissioner of veterans' services; directs a report to be submitted by such commissioner; directs that moneys in the military family relief fund shall be payable on vouchers certified by the commissioner of veterans' services.
Authorizes a veteran's close friend or family who is reasonably familiar with such veteran's wishes to request that such veteran be buried in a state veterans' cemetery.
Classifies military monuments and memorials as parkland; provides military monuments or memorials erected or constructed on property of a municipal corporation shall require authorization by an act of the legislature prior to any change in status including alienation, development, leasing, transfer, sale or discontinuance.
Relates to Gold Star families; provides for the equitable treatment for all parents, spouses and minor children of service members who are killed in action and family members of service members killed during peacetime.
Prevents pension poaching by attorneys, law firms, screeners, and class action consolidators seeking to represent veterans filing claims under the Camp Lejeune Justice Act by requiring disclosure of the likelihood of an offset against VA compensation benefits by the amount of any award or settlement.
Authorizes public requests for information from any county, city, town, or village desiring to have a memorial located within their municipality listed within the veterans memorial registry; directs the department of veterans' services to establish a veterans memorial registry.
